First and foremost, Eddie Jackson is a stud. I know we were playing the sisters of the poor, but I was impressed with his play today. It seems that he is recovering well from his injury.

Cyrus Jones: I am still not convinced that he is the long term solution at cornerback. I said last week that he got away with some pass interference in the endzone. Today he struggled with getting his head turned around. At least he is in position more than he was last year.

One play, but the pbu by Mo Smith was pretty impressive.

Eddie Jacskon: Stud
Bradley Sylve: Dud

Cyrus Jones has looked ok at times, but then he looked bad at times. I've said it many times before, but I like his skillset at Star. If TB is ready later in the season, but him at Corner and Jones at Star.

Definitely. Doesn't get talked about a lot, but he's a solid player.

Did Sylve see any minutes today?
To the OP, I have no idea so I won't clutter the board with my opinion.

Sylve was in at the end. He was in coverage when the receiver committed pass interference.

upvoted to cancel the phantom downvoter

edit to add substance:

Ya, Cyrus has had his name called too many times, for the wrong reasons.

Like during the game thread early today, and against WVU, if they can't get their head around and find the damn ball, they aren't doing much.

Jackson makes our defense more physical when he is on the field. He is a future NFL CB IMO.

Cyrus is playing fine, but his ball skills are lacking. We'll see.

I think obviously EJ is an upgrade and I also think Geno is as well. Adding the physical presence of EJ on the outside will be a huge help against speed sweep teams and if we are eventually able to get TB up to speed we could eliminate bubbles & speed sweeps.

Liked what I saw out of EJ. But some of the "best CB Saban has had at UA" talk seems a bit premature still.

Cyrus played decent. He didn't give up much. One bad penalty but I didn't think the 2nd penalty should have been called and Saban let the refs hear about it. I was more concerned with Cyrus's tackling.like to see him get his man to the ground a bit quicker. big SEC receivers will drag him if he tries to wrestle with them. Best thing I saw out of Cyrus today was that punt return.

What game were y'all watching? Cyrus looked good. He was in position for every reception that was thrown against him and he was good in run support. Jackson's great game should not count against Cyrus.

This. Fricking beasted it.

I think Cyrus has improved since last year especially in how he's usually in position. That was a big problem last year. I still don't think he has elite ball skills and I am still doubting his physicality.

The bigger wide receivers are going to create a mismatch problem. Question is how will we deal with it? Will we have Eddie follow Treadwell around, or will we trust Cyrus Jones to lock down his side of the field?

Cyrus had an ugly pass interference call. The second one was bogus, but he didn't make a play on the ball either. Like I said, he has improved, but I am not convinced that he is the answer long term at cornerback.

Eddie Jackson is definitely going to be a beast. I fee much better on the perimeter with him out there. Cyrus payed fairly well, still think Brown needs to get more time.

When Brown is in the game he is playing press man, the WR can smell his breath when he lines up. I love that. We seem to play off with Sylve, and Jones isn't really a great press corner. I'd love to see Brown and Jackson on the outside with Cyrus or Geno at star and Mo Smith at money by the Ole Miss game.

Yeah, Brown and EJ both play press. Getting those two on the field together for the rest of this year and next year would be awesome.

Humphrey has to find a role too. He's just too damn good not to.

I half wonder if we'll end up moving him to FS. I think he'd be an elite corner, but with EJ/TB, he wouldn't start until his Junior year across from TB. We lose Jarrick, Perry, and LC26 after this season. Geno could likely play FS, opening up Star for Hump. Which I don't mind at all. Hump at Star with TB and Eddie at Corner would be crazy.

My only complaint about Eddie is he had better learn to wrap up. he can not shoulder tackle Dural or any of the other great receivers like Treadwell in the SEC.

I think our guys back their are playing solid football. Now if you want to point out the weak link, it's Nick Perry by a mile.

Improving from one game to the next. That's what's important.

Tackling stills needs a little improvement. Still concerned with A&Ms receivers.

Hump is probably not physical enough to play safety unless you keep him as a deep safety
