South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward announced some new starters for the Gamecocks' game with East Carolina (7 p.m. Saturday/ESPNU).

Rico McWilliams will get the nod at cornerback ahead of true freshman Al Harris. T.J. Gurley gets the start at safety ahead of Chaz Elder.

Also, linebacker Skai Moore, who was not a starter for the Texas A&M game (missed treatment), but played about the best out of any single player on the South Carolina defense, returns to start at Will Linebacker.

The Gamecocks lead the overall series with the Pirates, 12-5, and have won two in a row in the series.

I'm surprised Elder is out instead of Marcus.

I understand wanting to get Gurley back in. He was a FR All SEC guy when he replaced Swearinger for those couple games. Then he got hurt, but that was almost 2 years ago so he should be good to go now. I'm 100% fine with McWIlliiams over Harris. Harris was completely lost out there last week, but he's just a FR, so I didn't expect him to know all the plays. McWilliams was making noise to get serious playing time in '12 before he was injured.

Gurley made the only play on the ball I saw from our D against A&M. Deserves the start.

Does anyone remember when I talked up TJ Gurley in the offseason, and even put him on my preseason All SEC list at Safety?

Any of yall remember when yall attacked me for it and said he sucked because he lost his position to a such and such and this and that?

TJ Gurley is a gifted athlete.
