As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.

Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.

1. Todd Gurley - 193 total yards from scrimmage at an average of 12.1 yards per play and 3 TDs added against a quality opponent. Gurley was the easy pick at #1.

2. Cameron Artis-Payne - 191 total yards from scrimmage at an average of 7.1 yards per play and a TD. Another pretty easy decision to be at #2.

3. Kenny Hilliard - 132 total yards from scrimmage at a rate of 6.6 yards per play against a quality opponent. Definitely not as suspect as others in LSU's backfield.

4. TJ Yeldon - He did what he does so consistently, had a solid game. 127 yards from scrimmage at a rate of 5.3 yards per touch.

5. Derrick Henry - A perfect compliment to Yeldon in the backfield, Henry went for 113 total yards from scrimmage at a 6.6 yards per play rate.

Worth a mention:

Josh Robinson - Outstanding performance, but the level of competition he played against barely kept him from making the list this week.

Russell Hansborough - Great game, but was also slightly discounted due to level of competition.

Kings of Efficiency:

Braylon Heard - 2 touches, 2 TDs and 116 total yards.

Corey Grant - 8.5 yards per touch and 93 total yards from scrimmage with at TD

Nick Chubb - 17.5 yards per play on just 4 touches with 1 TD

I don't disagree with your top 5, but to not even mention any of A&M's RBs is kind of ridiculous.

Magee proved his value last year. He will do so again as a senior and team caption.

Fournette is going to be fine. He was forcing it too much in his first game. Jeremy Hill didn't start doing much of anything until halfway through his freshman year.

The fact that Kenny Hilliard lost weight and looked as good as he did is a bonus, in my opinion. A very nice surprise. He looks like he did his freshman year.

LSU should have 3 outstanding backs this year.

The Kenny Hill/Kenny Hilliard thing is going to get really annoying.

The problem is that they had 3 guys split everything up. As a unit they were great, but none of them individually was good enough to make the list.

LSU went through the same issue a few years ago on this list and it made their fans mad too.

A slight breeze is enough to make the average LSU fan bitch and moan.

Your RBs as individuals didn't do shite to get in the Top 5, brah. Talk to Sumlin about giving it to one guy.

But at least a mention of the triple threat of A&M's run game. Something. Anything.

I know, but getting carries only near the goal line isn't enough to be on the list ahead of the ones that made it. Good game by Carson, but his 46 yards wasn't enough this week.
