frick rebalgator. He should frick himself, right guys!?

quote:

California prosecutors have declined to file charges against a sheriff's deputy who struck and killed a man with his patrol car last year.

Deputy Andrew Wood was apparently distracted by his computer when his patrol car drifted into the bike lane, running over cyclist Milton Olin Jr.

Prosecutors said that because Wood was acting within the course of his duties when typing on his computer, criminal charges are not warranted.

The victim’s family have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Sheriff's Department and accused Wood of negligence.

Olin’s loved ones also started an online petition on Change.org demanding that charges be brought against the deputy. So far, more than 67,000 people have signed.

So I can hit someone with my car and kill them, but so long as I am sending a work-related e-mail then it's okay? Oh, no, it doesn't work that way because I'm a regular citizen and the law applies to me, unlike cops, apparently.

The cop probably didn't even get fired and then cops wonder why the public feels like it is cop vs public. All the good cops should be pushing for retards like this one to be fired and prosecuted because he makes them all look incompetent

Sounds like they declined to file criminal charges because the case would be difficult to win in court, and instead are going to let the civil charges mete out justice.

But I agree, should be charged with negligent homicide/manslaughter. I'd be pissed.

Here's something else to piss you off.

The police statement after Omaha police shot and killed a COPs video guy.

quote:

(the officers) had no choice but to respond in the manner in which they did. Mr. Dion paid the ultimate price for his service — to provide the footage of the real-life dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis to television viewers throughout the world

If y'all read the article the d.a. basically states he won't be charged because responding to the email was an act of official duty. It totally implies you can't be negligent while performing an official swine duty.

I've thought for years that text messages would kill cycling. But it's worse than I thought. Now law enforcement is running over cyclists in bike lanes and "it's all good".

I honestly don't see a good answer to this one. "Glad I'm not racing anymore" is the best response I have. Legislation isn't going to cure this. It's the technology, and the technology can't be stopped. We could come up with some sort of filter that prevents texts/e-mails being sent or received or entered if the platform is moving faster than, say, 5 mph, but that would prevent passengers from texting and that makes no sense. The only solution I see is dedicated bike paths separate from roadways - everywhere. And that ain't gonna happen.
