Besides the 4 team play off, I don't really see this new system being that much better.

Well you can't do it like the NFL the way college football is organized. Too many teams and too many conferences.

Even if the so-called "Power Five" split from the NCAA you'd still have 60+ teams to fill 4-8 spots.

30% of your posts have been starting new threads. That's impressive.

I suspect like the BCS most years they will get it right. When something odd occurs like in 2004 and 2011 then they will tweak the systems eventually adding 8 teams.

If this is the end product, it will not be an improvement. If it is a step toward an 8 team playoff including all conference champions, it will have been worth it.

When you think about all the complaining about teams left out of the tourney in basketball, you have to expect this to be a disaster.

It is far worse. The only correct solution was to use the old system and simply place four teams instead of two.

Putting this in the hands of 13 people is the most idiotic thing that has ever happened in college football.

The only thing that is changing is who people are going to blame come season end

I think it is a mistake to only include 4 teams. It should be conference champions and at large. Start with 8 teams.

This - a tournament of champions.

The BCS should have just evolved into a 4 team playoff. The selection committee will likely become a controversial clusterfrick.

Playoffs suck. Selection committee? Couldn't possibly be a worse idea. No idea why they have to keep fricking with the game.

BCS was a very good system. Should have kept that, and quit trying to turn CFB into the NFL.

This all day every day.

Hey, let's put the decision in the hands of 13 people without any sort of criteria for what teams should be voted in. They can vote for whatever team they want for whatever reasons they want. I don't care who you are human nature will always invoke bias towards certain teams or conferences. This is going to be a shitshow for the next few years.

Yes, yes it was. It held the historical integrity of the game together. It placed emphasis on the regular season, which is (well used to be) what set CFB apart from other sports. It kept the traditional tie ins and relevance of the bowl system in tact.
All while attempting to get the two best teams to play and the vast majority of the time did.

People just love to bitch. Now we have a system that devalues both the regular season and bowl system that will be selected by a panel including Condeleeza fricking Rice. Great job y'all!

The 4-team playoff is just the start of the ruination of the only sport that the regular season still matters. The northeastern tv types that don't understand or like college football will force an 8 or 16 team system on us, and that will be it. Goodbye to any meaningful regular season match ups between top teams. Will suck all the life out of a Bama/LSU or UF/FSU matchup if both are top teams.

I can't believe people were so foolishly duped by ESPN into thinking a playoff system was an improvement.

How often has the BCS system got it wrong?? And don't tell me 2011... Bama and LSU were the best teams BY A MILE that year... Even a well knows Oklahoma State booster admitted that...

This isn't necessarily true. 8 teams with the 5 conference champions and 3 at large bids would be fine because it still puts an emphasis on winning every game.

Any more teams than that, or if they go to 8 and the conference champions are not auto-bids then your are correct

They should've kept the BCS, made it a +1, and simplified the computer rankings (which is EXACTLY what Slive proposed back in 08, but only the ACC commish supported it).
