Hey, had to get it off the ground somehow

Went to the Alabama LSU game in 2010 with my best friend and his family from Eunice(sp). Had the time of my life. Helped stir some gumbo to the disdain of most of the LSU fans. Found a great ticket surrounded by absolutely great LSU fans. Made a bet with an older guy with the loser having to throw his shirt in the fire after the game, ooops. They let me off easy, it was a great trip.

Last year I went to the FSU Florida game with all my friends. We were at a bar for the Alabama game and naturally, I was the only Alabama fan in sight. Apparently I was slightly lubed up from the day's activities and stood up on a table to announce that when, not if, Auburn ran the kick back everyone at the bar had to be nice to me. Entire bar gives me the "yeahhhh right" comments and...then...frick. I'll never forget the complete silence followed by pure mayhem. Florida and FSU fans fed me drinks for the rest of the night and picked up my tab.

Funny my two most memorable moments have come in losses. Guess that's the great thing about the SEC though.

Hopefully this post keeps this thread from being the troll thread that it's intended to be

Aw... Its really great to hear some TN chatter once again. Y'all have been irrelevant for so long now I was beginning to wonder if y'all were still in the conference. Keep standing on those lorals and know that the rest of the conference feels sorry for yall, and sends our sympathy during yalls time of hardship. We're actually taking donations to get Sarah Jessica Parker to do one of those anti-bullying commercials to play when vandy is kicking yalls butts up n down the field and stealing your lunch money. Mean ole commodores.

Um, congrats on beating New York U at Yankees Stadium, I guess...

The 2 games that put Southern Football on the map

quote:

When you look at football in the South, it is no secret that Alabama is the top program.

They are one of the top programs in the country - now and historically.

And they played in the 1st game that put Southern Football on the map, this game is even sometimes called "the game that changed the South"

It was the 1926 Rose bowl against Washington. The Huskies were heavily favored, but ultimately fell to the boys from Dixie as Alabama scored 20 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter.

OK - everyone saw that coming. But what was the 2nd big win for Southern football?

Glad you asked, it was the dedication of Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA when the Dawgs whipped heavily favored national powerhouse Yale.

The game was a big deal. Roughly 35,000 people attended the game, the largest crowd ever for a football game in Dixie at the time. NINE governors were in attendance.

And yes, the Hedges were up for the 1st game.

Those 2 big wins over national powers did a bunch to create respect for Southern football.

Thank you, Tennessee, for being a very solid sidekick as we shaped the greatest conference in football. It would have been tougher to do this without you, like we are now, so thanks for being there to make a minor impact once in a while.

Alabama beat Penn @ Penn in 1922. I believe it was the first big win for a southern team in the north.

Tennessee deserves to have their mouth pried open and subjected to Alabama and Auburn's kale farts. They're the ones who created this conference's prestige, with a small dash of Saban at LSUA&M.

Tennessee is a dinosaur we all take our kids to see and get pictures with. Dead and white.

We all know LSU put southern football on the map. First university in the south to win a national championship. Don't ignore the facts....just accept it and move on.

You're welcome

Sad what the vols have been reduced to. Hope I never see the day Auburn fans are giving reacharounds to bama fans just to feel relevant.

That dinosaur was last spotted winning a NC in 1998.

The dinosaur known as A&Mosaurus was last spotted winning a NC in 1939. LULZ

When it comes to creating this conference, Alabama on the right. Tennessee on the left

Thanks Tenn for this great couple.

Had to sit next to them. They stole my nachos and sweated all over me.
