quote:

This isn't new for Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin. He traveled the preseason quarterback competition path twice before as a head coach, and both times, the winner became a record-setting passer who changed his school's history forever. Look deeper into Sumlin's history and it becomes evident that he has a knack for being in the presence of elite college quarterbacks, including Drew Bledsoe at Washington State, Drew Brees at Purdue, Jason White and Sam Bradford at Oklahoma, and Case Keenum at Houston.

quote:

With this being Sumlin's third preseason quarterback competition, he has the drill down pat. Let things play out in the spring, split the reps evenly, analyze the quarterbacks every way possible, and roughly two weeks before the season opener, pick a guy and stick with him. His past experiences have taught him a few things.

No mention of defense FYI.

He says elite QBs, but then puts Jason White, Sam Bradford, and Keenum into the equation?

Should've stopped at Brees IMO.

Two Heisman winners in there, and Keenum is the career passing leader I think. Id define them as elite college QBs

2 Heisman Trophy winners and another guy that would have won it if he was in the Power 5.

Yep, should have stopped.

Jason White and Sam Bradford both won the Heisman Trophy, which is the highest individual honor in college football.

Case Keenum is college football's all-time leader in total passing yards AND the all-time leader in touchdown passes AND the all-time leader in completions.

So my question to you is: are you 8 years old or retarded?

I think it has more to do with him being a LB in college though I'm not sure if they mentioned that

whether he can claim credit for all of those guys is a different thing but certainly he did well with Manziel

No doubt he's an elite QB guru, but I question his place as a HC.

2013 A&M had the worst defense I've ever seen with a decent team. I'm watching a replay of the Duke/A&M game right now and it just reinforces my opinion.

I don't think any good HC would ever field such a horrid defense and not see them improve over a full season. If anything they got worse.

I think Keenum had a lot his influence as well. Briles was only the coach his freshman year. The others were a product of several people including Sumlin

The following key players on defense did not play during the bowl game:

Kirby Ennis (starting NT) - torn ACL

Julien Obioha (starting DE) - back injury (went out on the first series)

Gavin Stansbury (starting DE) - leg injury

Darian Claiborne (starting LB) - suspended

A&M had to switch to a 3-man front early on because they were only able to use a total of FIVE defensive linemen during the entirety of the game, including 3 true freshmen.

Impressive.

He's still not as good a QB coach as Mark Richt though. Actually nobody in college football is though so that's understandable.

Maybe Richt should focus on the ship and not the QBs
