We are taking a family vacation there this Fall. It will be my wife and I with our two teens and my sister-in-law with their two teens.
What are the good local eateries? I know there are a lot of breweries there (I'm a beer snob). Which ones should I visit (only there for a three day weekend)? Other than the Biltmore, what is there for the women to do? What is there to do for the kids?
Any other do' or don'ts appreciated. TIA.

I like Highland Brewing Co. and Oskar Blues down in Brevard. If you're going later in the fall, Sierra Nevada may be open to people at that point as well.
Plenty of other options though.

I used to live there.
Highland & Pisgah are the best breweries but the facilities are not downtown. French Broad and Wicked Weed are downtown. French Broad near Biltmore and Wicked Weed has a restaurant.
Don't leave Asheville without going to the Grove Park Inn. I like it better than Biltmore. Look it up. You can have beer flights of the local beers in the lobby. The lobby is awesome, very rustic with 10' tall fireplaces. They basically throw trees in there in the winter.
Tupelo Honey and Curate are probably the most popular restaurants right now. New ones are popping up everyday. Downtown is small but there is tons of shopping, eating and drinking to be had. Asheville is thriving right now.
Of course hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'd head towards Brevard/ Pisgah Mountain for the best views. 30-45 minutes and turn around and you'll come across some cool overlooks.
Have Fun!

Thanks! Looks like we will be there during the Auburn vs Ms State game. Any good sports bars or breweries with the game on?

For eats you must go to Stoney Knob in Weaverville. Real short drive. Cool place, great food.

Go to 12 bones smokehouse if you want some good bbq. There is a brewery very close to it as well. It's near the river. Good time.

Pack Tavern shows tons of games. Best option for drinking/watching downtown.

Smoke a lot of weed . . .
But since you are with the family, drive around downtown, show them the homeless hippies.
Outside of that, a lot of hiking, can do some whitewater if it is not too cold, or hit the Indian Reservation or casino in Cherokee.

Leaving Friday. Looks like you can kill a whole day at the Biltmore if you wanted to. Gonna start calling tomorrow to find a place to watch the Auburn game and the Bama game.
