But this would end the LSU-Florida rivalry

It would also end the LSU/Arkansas rivaly, LSU/Auburn rivalry, and the Miss State game. LSU has too many rivalries to keep them all. Alabama is the same way.

Between the 3-5 and the 2-6, I'd prefer the 3-5 simply because the rotation of the non-permanent opponents is easier. Twice every four years. One at home and one away.

Here I thought LSU would be trying to drop A&M to get rid of that pesky thanksgiving game.

The Thanksgiving Day game sucks, but so did the Black Friday game against Arkansas.

Screw it. Go to a 6-2-2 schedule and play one fewer OOC team.

Maybe even mandate that both OOC teams be against schools in another major conference instead of FCS cupcakes. If your gonna get gouged for seasons tickets, you might as well see some meaningful games.

In the 2-6 schedule,
LSU: Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia
Arkansas: Mizzou, Texas A&M
Ole Miss: Miss State, LSU
Miss State: Ole Miss, Vanderbilt
Texas A&M: Arkansas, LSU

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina
Georgia: Florida, Auburn
South Carolina: Florida, ?
Tennessee: Alabama, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Miss State
Kentucky: ??
Mizzou: Arkansas, ?

You'll need to switch some up. Here are the changes I'd make:

Miss State: Ole Miss, Kentucky
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Kentucky
South Carolina: Florida, Mizzou
Kentucky: Miss State, Vandy
Mizzou: Arkansas, South Carolina

I love this idea and I think it is something that will happen

It would definitely make the conference much more fun

My question is, what exactly would be the motive? It simply evens out -- teams would play certain other teams more often, but would play yet other teams less often. So the level of bitching would remain approximately the same. "Oh, you don't have to play Team X more than once every few years" becomes "You don't have to play Team Y every single year." Since we already have that latter complaint, there needs to be further clarification of what exactly would be accomplished by this idea. I'm not dismissing it, but I would like more depth to the presentation.

The only way to completely eliminate the complaining is for everybody to play everybody. Obviously that's not possible, but a 3-5 brings more parity than the current system since you're at least playing everybody every other year.

I think it's a good idea. Although I can't help but think a nine-game conference schedule and keeping the current permanent rivals is the best option.

In this 3-5 scenario, you would end up having seasons where you only play against two or three division opponents, making the divisions an unfair way of determining who goes to the SEC championship.

There'd have to be no more divisions. Top two conference records go to Atlanta. The only question mark is how do you break ties between teams (especially if they didn't play each other).

It is not that complicated

tie breakers would be records against common foes, SOS, points for/against

There is no "perfect" solution, but getting to go to every campus once every four years is worth it.

Also LSU would swap Alabama with Arkansas as a permanent rival

frick that. And screw this idea. I will never support something that doesn't have LSU playing Auburn every year, along with the 3 provided.

It is worse then that. A player could be a 4 year player and never even play certain teams at all

It's an interesting idea but I'm not for anything that basically gets rid if divisions.

That would be a horrible way to do a tie breaker.
