Directv will likely get SEC Network soon. We all believe so anyway. I called today to cancel service and site lack of SEC Network as reason. They gave me the following to stay:

$50 off bill for 6 months,
$40 off bill for 6 months after that,
$100 one time bill credit,
$100 Visa gift card,
AND NFL Sunday ticket for free in 2014.

Call and get your deal today, fools. (also got confirmation that they'll honor that deal even if they ultimately get SEC Network)

If they're giving people all that to stay I have to guess they aren't even close to a deal. That's a pretty good hookup you got.

How many times did you say "Nah, I'm still canceling" before they gave you all of that?

I'm gonna call tonight.

I just told them I'm out unless you can make me feel really good about staying. A buddy told me they'd offers him similar deal to stay.

Side note: they've been acquired by AT&T, so they'll likely have sec network in 2015 if not sooner.

I have like 20 months left on my contract. I doubt they would do much for me.

I'm actually in the same boat. I've got 18 months on mine - and we spend less than $100 per month on our plan. I do wonder what they'd offer, though.

Two members of my family called today.
Neither received any deals from DTV.

Why do people always say this?
It happens maybe twice a year, for like 30-60 seconds?
If that often.

In my experience it happened a lot more often, that's why I said it. I suppose it depends on where you live, no?

Did they call to cancel, or did they call just to ask for the SEC Network?

You have to ask. Start the conversation by saying id like to cancel for this reason unless you can offer me a reason to stay. She said "well there are some options available to you, do you have a pen handy?" She listed they options and I said I want all of them. She gave them to me and the I said, "look, if you guys cave to pressure and pick up sec network I still expect these offers to be in place on my bill". She said they absolutely would be.

ETA: entire call took about ten minutes. It's worth the time. Call EXPECTING a deal, not hoping for one. You'll get it.

Their full Disney/ESPN contract expires Sept 30 of this year. So ESPN has all the leverage in the negotiation and will threaten to pull the plug on everything if DTV doesn't give in for the SECN(and probably LHN). It will be done before that date. Actually, almost all of ESPN/Disney's contracts expire on that date. They aren't coming out and saying it, but that's why we launched the SECNetwork this year and not last year. It was virtually guaranteed carriage.

DirecTV has reached a new 10-year carriage agreement with ESPN, part of a much broader agreement encompassing all Walt Disney Co.-owned television networks.

DirecTV’s agreements with Disney expired Sept. 30 and the new agreement is retroactive to that date.

My sister called.
Explained she'd been with them since 2001 and spent thousands of dollars on their product over the years, but that they were looking to make a change, due to the SECN.
They spoke for awhile, and the woman was less than knowledgeable.
I think she just happened to get a lousy person on the line.

Mine went out at least twice a month. Could be a bad install, but regardless, I prefer cable.
