If UNC receives NCAA Death Penalty, will the ACC collapse like the the SWC?

How much would a UNC Death Penalty for academic fraud affect the ACC?
On a side note: In your opinion, what punishment does UNC deserve for admitting to egregious academic fraud?

UNC is/was not the power that SMU was back in the day. Don't think it would affect it THAT much.

In terms of conference power, they're a way bigger power than SMU was. It really isn't about how good they are at football.
That said, they won't get the death penalty for the same reasons that they are powerful.

I read an article a while back that said the NCAA regretted its decision to give the DP to SMU considering what happened to the program afterwards.
The article said that the NCAA more than likely will never punish another school with a DP again.
However, it went on to explain that the NCAA will continue to punish schools with sanctions that borderline an actual death penalty.
Case in point: Penn State.
For all practical purposes, Penn State received a death penalty. The punishment was incredibly harsh and costly.
Penn State may not have received an actual Death Penalty on paper, but the sactions amounted to essentially a death penalty.
UNC is facing the same kind of punishment. What they did is as bad if not worse than SMU or any other school the NCAA has punished before.

UNC won't get anything close to the death penalty because every single major program in the nation is doing similar things. Does anyone here really believe Richard Sherman was held to the same academic standards at Stanford as the general student population?

Terrible comparison. PSU just got some of hte penalties removed and will be back to bowl games and Big 10 titles in a year.

Richard Sherman is well known for being a very intelligent person. Sure, he's controversial. But that makes him no less intelligent.

I have serious reservations that the Death Penalty will ever be used again.
Not only did it kill SMU, but it became a zombie for the next 15 years.

UNC will get huge sanctions in football and basketball, but they won't get the death penalty in either sport. They will still be playing their conference schedule, so they and the other powerful ACC teams (mainly UVA) will be able to hold the conference together.

That was SMUs doing.
They changed thier criteria and basically removed themselves from teh football world.

I never said he is not intelligent. I asked if players like him and others at Stanford are really expected to put in the same amount of classroom work as your average student.
What happened at UNC happens everywhere. Every university has 2 or 3 majors athletes are "encouraged" to major in, and they all have tutors who "help" them.

No one will EVER receive the death penalty again. After what happened to SMU's program, the NCAA would never do that to another team again. The NCAA wouldn't even go as far as imposing a TV ban anymore at this point, far too much money to be lost. If the NCAA was going to hand out the death penalty to someone they would have to USC and Penn St. It's just not ever going to happen again, end of story.

unc is a much, much bigger power than SMU ever was-- UNC is a national team like Florida or Bama, SMU was just a regional power.
