we are allegedly in his top 3-4 after big dawg camp and taking a commitment from his teammate. didn't think we had a legit shot of getting him though

I wouldn't worry about it. I would be surprised if he ended up at MSU.

Anything can happen in recruiting, but I'll be surprised if he leaves the state. It wouldn't surprise me however if he's still trying to get Mixon an instate offer, as he has tried to in the past.

ETA: He can always take that 90 mile drive from Tuscaloosa to see Mixon

We discussed this in our recruiting thread. Is Winston the only 5* to actually leave the state of Alabama in the recruiting ranking era?

We're enjoying a visit high with Payne and Javon Patterson. We'll see over time if it's more than that -- but I'm not getting my hopes up.

On Mixon -- I'm pretty excited about him. What's up with the lack of offers?

As for the in-state programs, he's way too small for Bama's offense, and Auburn got 2 potential five stars at RB. Players like him and Nick Gibson slip through sometimes

Do you think Alabama deserves to get everyone? What's wrong with going to MSU if thats where he feels at home?

It's more numbers and higher targets for Bama, as they are looking at Mixon for the slot and not RB.

Likely just 1 more WR spot with Godwin, Durante, Hill, Cager, and potentially another run at Kirk as targets. They talked about getting a slot/return guy for the last spot, and all but Cager fits that description. I don't think they'll take one to be taking one if they miss on all those guys(which they might do), and Mixon falls right outside. Now if something happens with Charlot at the UA AA game, they would have a spot to fill in a small window. Depends on if they just tuck it away for 2016 or not.

I really do like Mixon as a hybrid guy, I'd take him and call it a day. Durante has a lot of things around him that doesn't appeal to me(grades, weight, forcing WV to take his brother to retain his commitment).

MSU is definitely reaping the rewards of both Bama and Auburn filling up, getting some really good player from the state...

From our backyard? From a feeder school in a very pro-Alabama city? Coached by a former player? A position of need and a player that fits the nose like none since Josh Chapman? I would be disappointed if we didn't.

This is what bothers me. I know Alabama is having unprecedented national recruiting success, but neglecting the state can hurt you years from now. Ask Bobby Bowden in his later years.

Jamarcus Russell may not have been a five star, but he was close... probably the most high profile recruit to leave the state before Winston.... he was a bigger name than chad Jackson.
