Thank god we finally have a playoff, a big step in the right direction.

The new system is better than what we had, but it needs to be 8 teams

5 - power 5 conference winners

oh, but a conference winner might have 3 or 4 losses...

So the frick what, if a 7 - 9 NFL team can make the playoffs as a division winner, a 9 - 5 ACC conference winner can be an AQ for the plaoffs.

THEN take the best 3 available teams.

Seed the teams 1 through 8 and BOOM

perfect playoffs

Hang on about 5-10 years and you'll get your wish.

I disagree, 8 is too many. 4 is more appropriate given the length of regular season and number of realistic contenders on an average year.

I've always supported an 8 team for the playoff

It will probably happen quicker than that...

frick that noise.

I don't want college football to look like the NFL. I don't want to de-emphasize the regular season in any way.

bullshite

Spurrier said it best a few years ago when he was asked about a playoff. He said something about how "the girls seem to handle it fine" referencing the women's hoops tourny

He also referenced lower division NCAA football playoffs

AND, if players are about to start getting "compensation" - that negates much of the arguments against a longer season

I'm not against bracket-creep on the grounds that it is too taxing on the players. I am against a post season tournament which over-shadows the regular season, and I assess an 8 team playoff to be such a thing.

Furthermore, I view the NFL's playoff model as a cautionary tale of what bracket-creep can do. I view the 4 team bracket as an improvement over the BCS, but doubling to 8 would be a mistake in the current landscape.

In fact, it will strengthen it in several ways:

1. if conference champions get in, then all the other coaches will quit being pussies and go to a nine game conference schedule.

2. If you regularly will have 1-2 loss teams in the playoffs, teams will be much more likely to schedule real OOC games, if for no other reason to get "practice " playing a tough game.

Conference Champions and at larges..... so the tournament that every other NCAA sport, Div 1 through 3, men and women use.... I like it.

Did you know that under that format, the NCAA could award a sanctioned National Championship trophy to FBS Football.

Yeah, cause if the Iron Bowl didn't decide our entire season every few years, I guess I'd not care about it anymore.

This. If you are automatically in as a conference champion, OOC losses hurt less. And if you don't win your conference, then you need to have GREAT OOC wins to boost your resume to get in.

Teams will have a lot of incentive to schedule primetime OOC matchups.

this format is coming

protecting conference champions is important to ALL of the leagues

odds are, at least 2 of the conference champs deserve it anyway

3 at large teams ensures that everyone has a fair shot and SHOULD reduce arguments (note - I said REDUCE, not eliminate...)

having a potentially weaker conference champ gives everyone a "Cinderella" to pull for - great drama & better TV rankings = more revenues (has anyone forgotten what has REALLY driven all of this?)

I just wish it could be like that NOW

Yeah....fricking youngsters with no appreciation for tradition...if there were 8 teams you would want 12 yada yada then 16 then 20. It will be worthless soon enough.

I think 6 is the perfect number. If you aren't one of the top 6 teams you really don't have a legit claim to be champions.

And letting all major champs in would be a joke. A 3+ loss champion would be a travesty.

I think it would be perfect to go to 16; (technically it would only be 8 because your already using some games that are played and adding a few at large but your forcing teams to play their way in) , if you incorporate the P5 conf champ games ( this would be of course require the B12 to either expand or be allowed to have one). That would guarantee 10 spots to those leagues. You would have to eliminate non P5 league CCG , but in doing so have mid maj champ game the winner advances to qtrs, 2 at large match ups the same weekend as the conf champ games held on campus or at predetermined sites. This would only add 1 week of college football with a 16 game playoff.

Example :

Dec 3rd

Acc
FSU- GT

BIG
OSU-NEB

B12
UT-OU

PAC
USC-O

SEC
UGA-BAMA

Mid major
NIU-UCF. ( NIU/ Chicago)

AT1
LSU-MIA (BR/ Nashville)

AT2
STAN-MICH (P Alto/ Seattle)

Dec 10
Seed Winners (committee / polls , whatever ) play games on campus

1 FSU- 8 UCF (Tall)

2 UGA- 7 Mich (Athens)

3 OSU- 6 OU (Columbus)

4 Oregon- 5 LSU ( Eugene)

Jan 1
Sugar Bowl
2 UGA- 3 OSU

1 FSU- 4 Oregon

Jan 10

National Title Game
1 FSU - 2 UGA

What do you think ?

Take the new playoff system. Make It a requirement to be a Conference Champion to be in the playoffs. Perfect system.

I don't understand this.....

Both Auburn and Alabama would be in a 16 team playoff just about every year.... heck, so would Troy since a Sun Belt title would punch their ticket.
