We had a few players with pretty significant injuries last year that saw minimal playing time. Seems that almost all of them are playing positions where we have openings or potential starting jobs available

Players who missed time last year

Jaylon Denson

Justin Garrett

Josh Holsey

Jonathan Jones

Jeffrey Whitaker

Keymiya Harrell

OH AND

Swain will probably have to sit out this whole year too. Horrible horrible injury. It's a shame

I'm very interested to see if Key Harrell can get over the injury bug and get on the field...I remember reading that he was the DE Rocker wanted most back that year when he was being recruited. I've heard he has a pretty good pass rush (which we desperately need with Lawson being out)

We missed Garrett a lot last year. I'm hoping he is who we thought he was. We'll def need Whitaker to do well. I would really like to see us field a defense that compares to something seen back in the early to mid 2000s.

I remember this too. I've heard from some people that he would be a solid to good contributor if he could ever get healthy. I ahve also heard that he may end up being one of those medical waiver kids/will never see the field

The way some players talked about JG, he is going to be a stud in run support and over the middle passing game. He has solid instincts but struggles in coverage due to limitations.

I wouldn't be shocked to start seeing a "dual star" in what looks like a dime/nickel package where Therezie moves to that dime/nickel

Only ones I see contributing major snaps for us and being a factor is Holsey and Jones because our secondary is paper thin with unproven talent.

Whitaker hasn't played a meaningful down in forever. Swain will play against teams that run the ball. Key Harrell has yet to contribute so why would he now? And I'll refrain from jinxing Justin A-Day Garrett

I think Denson should be on your list

Good call. Knew I was missing someone

Denson can block so I'm sure he will be on the field even if he doesn't catch anything

I think Garrett missed his window. It is hard to sit a guy who played the spot well last year for a guy that hasn't played but a handful of games in a year or two. Injuries happen and you can't blame him, those are the breaks that happen in life.

I think Whittaker is a key leader for the defense this year, he might not be the main guy on the defensive line and might not get a great deal of playing time but he seems to keep the morale up and that is big too.

Holsey and Jones will be get a lot of snaps.

Not sure what to think about Denson and Harrell.

Good Topic....

Denson - Solid blocker good position guy we will be better with him healthy

Garrett - Will make some big time plays. Blitzing off the edge causing fumbles big hits I'm excited about him.

Holsey - Whether he starts or plays behind Moncrief gives us solid depth and play making ability at the Safety position.

Jones - Should be a starter alongside Mincy. Played well early in his career I think he'll be just as good as Mincy

Whiaker - Will give us depth a play a lot of minutes but he will be overshadowed by Adams Bradley Wright Blackson ect..

Harrell - No idea

Holsey is who I am the most interested in seeing. That being said, I hope every one of them is a beast.

I expect Garrett, Holsey, & Jones to be a big part of the defense.

The others will be role players at best.

I think Whitaker will get meaningful snaps. 5th year seniors with starting experience get some preference on most teams. Also, I got to imagine he is about on par with guys like Ben Bradley + Gabe Wright seems to be moving towards a hybrid DE/DT role

Never said he wouldn't get snaps. Just don't expect much more than a body in the rotation as his role.

I hope we aren't back to the Chizik era of preferential treatment based on years in the system. The best players need to play. Period.

Yeah, a role player.

That's a fine. Our DL rotation is fantastic and him getting snaps helps everyone.

It's going to be tough for players to break in on offense. I agree with the others, the DBs will likely get thrown into the mix quick. I think Holsey is a known quantity.
