Why Little Rock?........................

At first, the cynical part of me thought that the motive for moving the UGA game to Little ROck was to entice more Georgians to travel to this game, which would mean more dollars for the state............(since Little ROck is easier to get to than Fayetteville)
But then, I looked at your past schedules....and apparently you host several games in Little Rock every season. SOme cupcakes. Others not.
So, Why LIttle Rock?.......

Been doing it since 1948. It was the larger stadium for a long time and much easier for fans to get to. Most of the states population was around central Ark back then too. For years the only road to Fayetteville was a twisty arse, two lane mountain road. Hogs actually played more "home games" at LR than Fayetteville back in 70's and further back.

Because our past AD in his backwards thinking ways thought it would be a good idea to go into a long term contract to play in a stadium half the size of the one at home that is 1.5 hours further east than the State's population center.
I hope the distance is enough to entice more UGA fans as the snobbish bandwagon fanbase doesn't deem UGA to be a big enough opponent to sale 50k tickets on their own, so they are going to need help to get the attendance numbers to crack 40k. If you are ranked in the top25 at the time of the game it might be enough for the game to be played in front of 43k fans, 50k if you count the ones passed out on the golf course.

To keep people like me pissed off. Rabble rabble tradition, old money whatever. It's a shithole stadium in a shithole part of town that no opposing fan would be impressed with and it is in no way a reflection of the university or atmosphere in Fayetteville.

IIRC part of the new 5 year deal that we signed with Little Rock, in exchange from going from two games a year there down to one now, is that two of the five games have to be quality SEC opponents.

Interesting.
Sucks, though, that traveling Georgia fans won't get an opportunity to experience your actual campus, town, bars, women, etc.
And I believe I read where, according to the new schedules, we won't play again until somewhere in the 2020's......which is a long ways a way.
WOuld have been nice to visit Fayetteville.
Oh well...........

No the 5 year deal had to be made because Frank in all his forward thinking thought it would be a good idea to play 3 games a year down to end the last contract. Jeff Long realized the losses this would create from 25k fans showing up so he had to do something.
Its like he hated the University making money and having nice things.

You could have visited 5 years ago, that game was at home.
The only SEC team that has a real bitch about it was LSU and Ms. State, they have played the least at our home stadium, the rest have had to suffer going to LR a couple times in the past.

You only have to wait 12 years to experience Fayetteville.
You might wanna just come to a basketball game, a loaded Bud Walton is a great experience even for opposing fans.

As to why Georgia was scheduled as opposed to some other team I don't know and I don't know that I've seen it explained anywhere with any specificity. You will see comments regarding ease of travel mentioned in some articles but having lived in both Fayetteville and Little Rock I really don't see that as an issue in the modern era with the growth of NWA. We didn't have an interstate and nice airport there during my time in school.
I think they wanted a good opponent for the one LR game this season and there have been some dandy conference and non-conference games played in WMS over the decades. Here's one writer's perspective about the situation. LINK
A side issue which gets raised in all this and has been alluded to in this thread is the so called "Great Stadium Debate" wherein some have very strong opinions over where the games should be played, regardless of the opposition on the field. I'm not going to go into all that here as there's legions of threads on message boards about it and I actually like attending games in both places; the Arlington venue where we resume playing aTm is a nice change as well.

Weren't a lot of options for an SEC game...LSU and Bama will play on the hill going forward. Only left OM and UGA..OM played here like 2 years ago

Oh yeah, with the Fair remaining there and the Big Buck Classic held there each year it will stay around. The good thing is if people get out of line they don't have very far to take them to get them booked into the jail.

Appeasement of the Little Rock boosters by sending them a league game. It has nothing to do with Georgia personally.

NWA has only fairly recently built a population base with enough money to just about support the program without help from Central Arkansas. The UA depended much more on support from the Capital City during much of it's history.
Only relatively recently in the history of the program has there been a substantial difference in the seating capacity between the stadiums (although 20,000 of them at Fayetteville suck arse, but to be fair most upper deck seats anywhere do so.)
The stadium in LR is old, but is serviceable. Not a bad seat in the house. You are much closer to the field, the atmosphere (for a meaningful game, like GA will be) is much more intimidating to the visiting team (according to many accounts by visting coaches and players that have had to play against Arkansas there.) Mike Leach is quoted as saying it is the loudest stadium he ever had to coach in. He was an assistant at Kentucky during the Hal Mumme days.
DWRRS in Fayetteville is nice and shiny. Has a bigger Jumbotron to watch all those damn commercials on. Has indoor and club seating and suites for the wine and cheese crowd. Still trying to develop a soul though. Close in the endzone and maybe it will be louder.
Oh, and thank you for knowingly poking the subject with a stick again to get us bickering amongst each other. However, I have stated my thoughts on the matter and not going to debate any further on the matter.

frick off with your stupid WMS apologizing. UGA fans will feel ripped off and for good reason. They are "college football fans" and so they understand that "college" is what makes "college football" special.
Razorback Stadium only has the soul that comes from generations of actual college students and their families attending games there. The stadium sits across the street from fraternity houses that have boarded several generations of Arkansas leaders.
Razorback Stadium is where the most famous games in Arkansas Razorback history have taken place. Its where Nixon came to watch the shootout amid Vietnam protests on the hills around the stadium.
I really, really dislike the Little Rock centered non-alum fans like you when I read posts like the one above. It just shows me how out of touch with the "college" in "college sports" you all are, and it refreshes my dislike for playing any games off campus in any sport.
