"The Powell Avenue Steam Plant has been a fixture on Birmingham’s skyline for over a century. Reimagined, it can become a part of our city’s transformation by becoming a thriving and diverse destination. A place where creativity and innovation combine to generate economic energy for the future of Birmingham."

Plans by Alabama Power Company to transform its century-old steam plant into a cultural and entertainment venue prove that the public investment in Railroad Park and Regions Field continue to bring real returns, city officials said.

Alabama Power President Mark Crosswhite Wednesday announced the company's plan to redevelop the former Powell Avenue steam plant located just across from Railroad Park. The new use could include restaurants, entertainment space and a possible museum at the site.

When the hate comes out this strong, you know you're doing something right.

Its almost crazy the amount of development and resurgence you see from that area by Good People and Regions Field through downtown and Southside all way to Avondale. (with the exception of 5 points..)

I'm almost scared to guess what my rent will bump up to when I have to renew in April 2015. I've actually been looking for a house in Avondale, but they neighborhood just isn't there just yet...

If they were announce plans for another "skyscrapper" downtown, then we will know b'ham is booming.

When you mistake pity as hate, you know you're a idiot.

Sounds good. Huntsville turned an old cotton mill into a nice arts center. Its a fun venue.

Being a life long Bham resident, that used to be my attitude as well. However, I met a family from Germany at the Peanut Depot on Morris Ave last month. They were here for business and vacation. At the Rickwood Classic this year, I met people from California, Louisiana, and Texas.

The city is changing for the better. I never thought I'd say that.

I really hope Dallas wins the next Olympic bid. Would renovate Fair Park in to an awesome area.
