I've noticed a lot of attention on SC's CB/DE recruits this cycle, probably more than even a national powerhouse, 3 consecutive year Top10 team might usually get.

I started thinking, 'well maybe that's b/c other teams are dependent on their incoming FR to change the direction their teams went last year,' or 'maybe some teams are worse off than us with attrition?'

SC was one of the nation's youngest teams last year, most of the guys were FR, RS Fr, or Soph's. Even guys like #1 Overall NFL Draft Pick, Clowney, couldn't crack a starting job their FR year at SC. Spurrier and the coaches have recruited really well for years, and done an even more phenomenal job developing that talent.

So who are the SEC teams who have critical needs that they're counting on FR to contribute as starters from the 1st game? How did that happen?

UF will depend on a TR FR at 1 of the CB slots.

Both Jalen Tabor and Duke Dawson are enrolled, and both looked capable of starting as a TR FR.

In my opinion, there's gonna have to be a couple Fr to step up for us to make a bowl. Dooley just didn't get many great athletes. The guys that are left have experience, they're just not very talented.

We relied heavily on them in Mullen's first year but haven't since. We redshirt pretty heavily, except for cases of guys that are clear NFL talents -- or guys that will be heavily relied upon in their second year. For instance, Chris Jones actually only got 3 starts for us last year...

My guess for Tennessee

RB: Jalen Hurd will be the cleacut #2. Derrell Scott could be used as a change of pace guy
WR: Josh Malone will be a starter most likely
TE: Ethan Wolf and Daniel Helm will be the top two tight ends
RT: Coleman Thomas likely starts
DL: Derek Barnett, Dewayne Hendrix and Dimarya Mixon will all see significant PT
LB: Dillon Bates possible starter, will see a lot of PT
CB: Emmanuel Moseley likely starter, Evan Berry likely a backup
NB: D'Andre Payne and Rashaan Gaulden will see PT, but won't start
S: Todd Kelly, Jr. and Cortez McDowell could battle for the starting FS spot with returnee LaDarrell McNeil, both will see PT
K: Aaron Medley will start

In total
5 or 6 starters
10 or 11 more will get significant PT

TN will be one that relies on some true freshmen to make a big impact this year.

Dooley would be why.

That's fair, he wasn't ready for that level of football.

I didn't hear/read that. I know SC commit, Mark Fields won The Fastest Man award at The Opening and he was listed as one of the Top Performers today for Team Apocalypse with several pass break ups while covering the slot. (247 article). What are you referring to?

Did he not score high enough on the SPARQ testing?
Fields scored a 119.37
Some 5 star guy named Tolliver scored a 99.3.
20 pts better not enough?

Those matters are unpredictable. In some cases at least.

We're going to be heavily dependent on our incoming WR class which is rather surprising considering our tendencies under Petrino as the top passing team in the SEC.

We used a five WR rotation last year so of that hold true this year then the rotation will most likely be made up of two Petrino recruits and three newcomers. Two of those will be true FR and the other is a SO JUCO.

At WR, I agree J Cornelius and JoJo may be getting heavy rotation a few games in. Holister is a JUCO, (iirc) but may get in a good bit too. Edwards has good size, but is somewhat of a unknown at this point.

We are not depending on him, but it sure would help if Bijohn Jackson could get in steady rotation on the DL. Would like to RS Brian Wallace at tackle, but he may play some too.

Bama will be dependent on a freshmen at left tackle (yikes), punter, and likely cornerback. Is it bad that the punter scares me the most?

I will trade you our Sr Punter for your Fr Punter right now, no questions asked.
