Why does everyone refer to Ole Miss/MSU as Landmass?

Is this the reason?
They are pretty much the perennial winner of the National Title of obesity. They are the best hamburger eating state in the country according to anyone with eyes. You think I am making this up?

Because during Isaac, while everyone was freaking out about New Orleans, AGAIN, the weather channel lady couldn't remember what the state beside Louisiana was so she called us the "landmass between Louisiana and Alabama."
Nevermind the fact that the Mississippi Coast was pretty much whipped from the face of the earth. What a frickface.

Georgia is surprisingly active, there are marathons and half marathons almost every weekend around here. Also why is the north not fat? Shouldn't they have more layers since the weather is colder there?
