I know the attrition isn't the best thing in terms of depth but I'm getting a lot of good vibes from this team right now.
Chemistry is probably the biggest intangible in football IMO. Defense definitely didn't have it last year but this group seems to be focused. Needless to say its refreshing

The program our players went thru last Sat-Sun....
JUDGMENT DAY...
JUDGMENT DAY...
quote:
Judgment Day is our flagship service. Teams that enroll in Judgment Day experience a customized, two-day intensive program that pushes athletes outside of their mental and physical comfort zones and trains them to achieve success through improved leadership and coordinated team effort.
Using an approach similar to that of military bootcamp, Day 1 focuses on “breaking down” an athlete's tendency to rely on personal individuality and talent. This does not mean tearing an athlete down in a destructive sense, but rather pushing each individual to the limits of his or her capabilities in order to drive home the core message that talent, alone, is not sufficient.
With this lesson fresh in their minds, on Day 2 athletes are presented with a new set of challenges and given objectives that can only be accomplished through the exercise of peer leadership and coordinated team effort. Through these exercises, the athletes are “built up” as a unit and trained to practice a team-before-self mentality when facing adversity.

On the coaching front, Rankin reinforced the offseason theme: Simpler is better, thanks to new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.
"Pruitt just simplified everything. It's just so simple. It's night and day," Rankin said. "We knew the play, but then it was so much going on. The plays this year are so much simpler."
And suddenly the Deeprig-bat signal illuminated the sky

Read this article a couple of hours ago and that thought about Rig.

Now that's what I call a solid step toward excellent teamwork, something our defense has lacked as a coordinated unit.

And here we go....

Glad to see Corey Moore stepping up as a leader. Was wondering if we would have anyone in the secondary that would be vocal. Hope it pans out.

So a true freshman backup who made 3 tackles on the season in garbage time, is suddenly an authority on how complicated Grantham's scheme was?
Emerson is better than this. Emerson needs to let Dowdle be Dowdle and Seth needs to be Seth.
Rankin probably thinks Candy Land is complicated.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... if you run a vanilla defense in the SEC you are going to get scorched. Pruitt was an assistant under Smart, who runs some pretty complicated schemes. Go to the Bama board during the season some time this year... half their fans can't even tell you exactly what position a guy plays, maybe the guy is a strong safety in one package,, but in the other package he was more of a nickel corner, but then they ran the same package earlier in the year and it was more of a free safety.... etc.
Pruitt's simplicity shite is public relations 101.
Nothing more.
Spoon-fed bullshite.

How about Grantham's complicated safety blitz where Corey Moore got to Murphy before Ramik did. Pic from Dallas' story in the OP.
No more fancy dancy defense from Pruitt.
It's all about simplicity now.

Rankin has a good point here.... makes me feel bad for saying he couldn't understand Candy Land.

Sophomore inside linebacker Ryne Rankin, the other player UGA made available to talk about last weekend, was quizzed on the effect of the offseason upheaval on his side of the ball. On the players leaving, Rankin said he didn't think Georgia had a problem with player attrition.
"You've just gotta act right," he said.
He was asked more directly: Will the defense be better off without the players who have left, despite their talent?
"I don't know, it's sad to see people leave the program. But you've just gotta be able to act right," Rankin said. "I mean, grow up, be a man. You act wrong outside there and you're gonna end up in jail. It's simple."

His opinion is ten million times more valuable than a random dude on a message board.

So which defensive stat will be worse than 2013? Pts? (I'll even make it DEFENSIVE pts given up tp make you feel better..still the worst in CMR era BTW)Total Yards?Turnovers?
Hell, we lost 3/4 of our starting secondary and there's no doubt we'll be better in at least 2 outta the 3 ....more than likely 3 outta 3.

Apples and oranges.
No mett, no hill, no Landry, no beckham, no tre mason, no sammy watkins, no tajh boyd, no connor shaw, et al.
Our opponents this year are a cake walk compared to last year. We played 3 top ten teams in the first 4 games with 2 true freshmen in the secondary, and jenkins replacing jarvis jones, basically only had 3 returning starters on defense.
So 2014 has an easier schedule with 8 returning starters on defense, and you want to compare what the stats might be as some kind of indictment on grantham?
Get the frick on.
