They're getting closed off for the game, both ADs said they would rather have more seats.

My first thought as well.

What I think is even cooler is that we're now allowed for both teams to wear home jerseys. Red against blue is gonna look sweet.

Man I can't wait to see that. That starts this year?

Well, that, and no one wants to be sued when the inevitable drunk student drowns.

Wtf. It's a football game. Why would they need a pool?

I think you underestimate the high percentage of people who actually don't pay attention one bit during an football game to the actual game. I went to an NFL game last year and there was only 3 or 4 people around me who were paying attention to the game.

Then why go. Why not just watch at home if you don't care that much.

Am I the only one who thinks that stadium is a dump?

I get that it is a neutral site and all that... but this might be the time to go home and home.

A dump? I mean it's now 20 years old bur it's far from a dump. They've done a good job keeping it up to date.

Lots of people blast the Jags for attendance. They are on the lower side, but they haven't been last in the league for a while. Last year their avg attendance was higher than the Bucs, Steelers, Rams, and Raiders. Two years ago they outdrew 12 teams. 3 years ago they outdrew 7 teams, etc.

Sure, they are always/generally in the bottom third, but it isn't like they have been last in the NFL for a decade, yet that is the way lots of people talk about them.

Several stadiums have reduced capacity in recent years to add different kinds of features. I think attendance at sporting events is a problem all around, and not Jacksonville specific.

lots of stupid shite being said in this thread...we have pools because it was a great marketing decison but an even better business man...Khan....i have seen those pool verandas and the new mega screen in person...and they are fricking awesome...they can still utilize the area for extra seats as was mentioned...but...to the OP....i have been at the cocktail party and it was hot as the frick...i have also been when it was kinda chilly...good old florida....

at the end of the day, most NFL markets are just jealous that they cant have pools cause it is cold as crap where they are...i have been to preseason jags games and early season games when it was in the 90's outside...why not have some fricking pools and some fine trim walking around up there in bikinis?

the butthurt is strong in this thread...

I believe they said that it'll be off-limits during UF/UG (and you can't blame them).

hmm, the loss of nearly 10000 seats for the WLOCP is a crying shame. I doubt it will mean much to the Jags. Have they ever filled the stadium? But it will mean a lot to UGA and UF. That stadium was already substantially smaller than either of their home stadiums. For what? A pool? seriously?

I agree.

It wasn't done to satisfy FL/GA. For the Jags to make it work financially they had to put more in more premium seats. They did that in several different ways.

And yes, the Jags have sold out before the days of the tarps. It's a large NFL stadium in a small market. Something eventually had to give.

Same reason people get dressed up and pay for overpriced shite at a club as opposed to staying at home and drinking. If you're single and/or ready to mingle, can't get laid sitting at home. NFL is just another social event. CFB already has the built in social factor through tailgating on campus pre and postgame which frees people up to actually invest themselves in the game while it is going on. NFL tailgating across the country is mediocre at best.
