Will Charter try to frick me on internet prices if I do cut the cord? Currently paying around $45 each for internet and cable.

can i watch braves games on the mlb.tv app?

Any other information one can provide would be appreciated.

I don't know about Charter but they seem to always try to screw you over.

Braves games are tricky, you're in the blackout area. I've managed watching blackout games by using a program that changes your location on Chrome, but it definitely ran slower and don't know if it would work for other devices.

Is Charter better than Comcast? I can't imagine anything worse than Comcast customer service.

I have Charter for internet only and it's $29/mo ($32 after fees and such) for 30mbps. Gotta give em up for Comcast shortly though, when we move. Sucks cuz their prices are MUCH worse.

I would assume you could watch Braves games when they aren't blacked out in the area, but don't really know.

Cable companies are only one rate hike away from a full blown, guns drawn, face painted, hide the kids, tomahawk like on The Patriot revolution.

If I call them one more time and they tell me to expect them between 8am and 4:30 pm somebody's gonna get it.

Follow-up.... rechecked available internet options besides Charter.... we finally do have another provider in my area, Windstream, and it's the same price as charter. $56 plus made-up fcc fees.

Without a dsl option for low-bandwidth consumers in a certain area, there is no reason for the cable companies to offer anything less than their high speed service.

I'm writing my congressman this weekend.

I currently have Charter, but I cancelled cable service over four years ago. Up until this last month, I've gotten cable for free because they never put a filter on my cable line. If you cancel cable but keep the internet, you might get lucky that way.

That said, yea, they're going to bump up your cable internet cost. If you're a good negotiator, you can ask to speak to their retention department and hopefully keep a discounted rate on your internet service.

And now that I don't have cable, I use the internet to watch the braves games. I've got an appletv (cost $99), or you can get a chromecast ($35) and mirror anything from your computer to your tv. Just google "watch baseball online free" and the first website that pops up will have links to watch baseball games. The quality's not HD, but you get over it real quick.

I hope that helps. I don't miss cable at all. I can watch all the sporting events live through various websites, and any tv shows I want to watch, I just wait until the following day when they're all being streamed on random websites anyway.

I hope this helps.

thanks for the post P-Dawg and everyone else.

I have to get a new computer before I can cut the cord, my black macbook is on its deathbed. After that, I guess I'll check to make sure Charter isn't the only internet provider on the eastside (thanks deeprig)and hopefully get locked in around 40-50 bucks for internet only.

Get yourself an AM radio. Or better yet...get a wireless speaker with bluetooth to play Braves games through your phone on a radio app.

Baseball is better listened to on the radio and than watched on TV, imo. And you can get all types of shite done while listening.

If they try to jack you, threaten to cancel. If the retention folks won't cut you a good deal, follow-through. Cancel. It isn't like it's hard to go back and then you just take advantage of the new customer pricing. Good luck!

Jeffy, thats not a bad idea. I like our radio broadcasters a lot more than the TV folks anyways.

SIC EM, good point also, I'm a veteran of threatening to cancel

I live close to campus and split 100 mbit internet with 3 roommates. it ends up being $100 total, but $25 for fast internet isn't bad.

Charter hasn't done anything terrible to me.
