Tennessee spent less on basketball in 2012-13 than DePaul did, according to Department of Education figures. (Just $4.8 million to $6.3 million for DePaul.) That’s not the commitment befitting a top job in the SEC, let alone the country.

I thought Tenn was a destination BBall job, what gives?

did they ever hire a basketball coach or did they just go the Graduate Assistant route?

We are so poor because Mike Hamilton decided to do about $400M worth of facility upgrades at the same time. We added a new practice facility and re-did all of Thompson Boling in the same summer for $47M as part of that. We had to cut back for a few years to get back in the black.

They made the sweet 16 spending less.

Good job. RAMBO APPROVES.

Isn't Tennessee still picking up Fulmer's Krispy Kreme tab as well?

That would drive anyone to the poor house.

Sure I get that yall overspent, that is clear. The question is "why?"

My assumption is that Mike didn't think this would happen:

Nah. Fulmer is off the books. Dooley and the old baseball coach are the only guys we're paying I believe (along with Summitt). We owe Dooley about $130K/month iirc.

According to Alabama’s 2010-11 NCAA financial disclosure, it had outstanding debt of $207 million. LSU came in right behind at $202 million. Tennessee was third in the conference at $188 million.

You have to spend money to make money. Big 6 schools have the most debt. Moo State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Vandy have the least debt.

Does anyone other than a few inbred hillbillies really give a damn about Tennessee anything?

2009 and 2010 decline in attendance was due to downsizing the stadium by 6K seats. 2011 and 2012 decline was due to his piss poor hire.

Sure I know that, we just signed a half-billion dollar note for our stadium upgrade. But Aggies aren't expecting a competitive BBall program or staff until that new stadium revenue starts rolling in.

I guess the real question is why do Tenn fans feel they deserve to drive a BMW on a Honda Civic budget? To be a "bball school" don't you have to spend money like a bball school?

We spent less cause we already went broke building our awesome facilities and didn't need to spend more. Have you been to a game in TBA over the last few years? It's one of the best college arenas in the country.

I could give a frick what Depaul spent. We went to the sweet 16 and did it cheaply. Sounds like smart business to me.

Because Tennessee Men's basketball attendance was top 5 in the nation year in year out since 2006 and it'll bring in revenue and then some. That kind of attendance/support is something no one else has in the SEC has except Kentucky. Plus women's basketball program at UT is pretty good as well.

I thought it was orange is the new black, not the other way. Why black seats?

I can see that, good point.
