Full quotes
quote:
"We will have thirteen guys on scholarship. It's very important to have a full roster with the style I play. We have six scholarships to give right now and we will use all of them."
quote:
"The fifth year guys, there's a good chance we'll take three. I know for sure we'll take two. One of the guys we're bringing in won't be known to the public until the summer. He's a very high level, proven player who I think the fans will be excited about. There are some other guys who we're looking at as well. We are going to take three of those guys if things go right."
quote:
"You always look at transfers. There are guys who are interested in us, but we are only interested in high level guys that way. We may end up taking one or two, but not more than that. If we do take transfers who sit out next year, they will need to be proven players who we can count on in year two. There are some attractive options, but nothing done there."

They're going to the Bahamas to get someone. That's probably the kid he's referencing that no one knows anything about.

Our VQ guy broke it down like this.
Edit: This was just a poster on VQ who keeps up with it.
Rob Lewis, the basketball beat guy said Martin and Chiles are the 5th year guys they're trying hardest with.
quote:
From talking to some people over there, I think their board looks something like this:
1 or 2 of
Phil Cofer (HS)
Elijah Minnie (HS)
Willie Carmichael (HS-S. Miss signee)
1 of
TaShawn Thomas (Houston transfer-must sit out)/Danuel House (Houston transfer-must sit out)
Ronnie Johnson (Purdue transfer-must sit out)
Kevin Punter (JUCO)
They likely take the Houston transfers together if interested.
3 of
Octavius Ellis (JUCO)
Ian Chiles (IUPUI transfer-eligible immediately)
Justin Martin (Xavier transfer-eligible immediately)
Brian Williams (Oklahoma State transfer-eligible immediately)
Byron Wesley (USC transfer-eligible immediately)
Only thing we are still digging on is the Bahamas prospect.

Wow that's a lot of transfers.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out and what kind of team UT fields next year.
Thanks, Volfan

Willie Carmichael?
I mean, he was a good signing for Southern Miss, but...

Most likely a backup plan. Doesn't sound like we will sign another HS player if we can get Cofer back.
Tyndall is continuing to say he is not going to sign any S. Miss signees at Tennessee, but all 5 have reached out to the staff according to RL. Sounds like a last resort to me from what the VQ guys have said.

Should be a crazy month no matter what happens. Filling 6 transfers/signee spots in a month is a lot of basketball recruiting news.

Especially when there aren't many talented players left out there.

Why do house and Thomas have to sit? Thought since their coach was fired they wouldn't lose eligibility

They are appealing it. Don't think they're expected to win it though.

quote:
"It's not going to be all top 100 high school guys (in this class), as it will be in our future classes, it's going to be a mixture of different dudes. We recognize that most of the Tennessee quality high school players' recruitments were over a long time ago. We're not going to panic and tie up scholarships on guys that wouldn't even be on our radar in future classes."
quote:
"When we sign high school players, they are going to be extremely high quality players that everyone wants. We're not going to give scholarships away for four years to guys that aren't elite guys. In the future, this is a program that will be built on elite high school talent. But as we retool the roster right now, we're going to take some guys from different places to keep us extremely competitive in the present, just as Tennessee's been in the past nine or ten years. There are fifth year guys who are just going to plug holes until we can fill up the roster with high school players everybody in the country wants."
Very encouraged by these comments. Doesn't sound like he is going to build off JUCOs too much moving forward. The 5 man 2015 class will be interesting.

Chiles would be a really good add at guard.

Sounds promising. I appreciate you putting all the info in one spot. Between VQ and 247 and the million threads that go with them, basketball recruiting info is sporadic for me at best.
Excited about some of the names being thrown out. House would be huge

Some talk that UT coaches are visiting with the #3 JUCO player in the country, 4* 6'8 200 lb. SF Jordan Goodman

@GoodmanESPN 1m
Purdue transfer Ronnie Johnson told ESPN he will visit Tennessee this week, and expects to choose from Vols, Xavier and Houston.
If I'm him, I'm going to UT
