I'm sorry Realist. It really sucks to lose a pet. Was it your first dog too?

No my first dog was a husky given to "me" the day I was born. Died when I was 14. That was pretty damn brutal too :(

Alright, somebody has to say it:

why the hell did you let your dog run around outside a fence without a leash?

I'm in a quiet neighborhood where privacy fences aren't allowed. My dogs and all of the other neighborhood dogs are never on leashes.

We have a fence but with 25 people coming and going today the gate was left open by someone. Normally this wouldn't matter bc our house is still located about 300 yards from the street and he's never ventured even half that distance away from the house without someone with him. I really have no idea how he got that far. He doesn't chase animals or anything so idk.

So sorry for your loss. My dogs are old and I dread the days I'll have to let them go.

Man, that sucks.

I just got a new puppy and had a big scare when she came down with Parvo a day after I got her. I can't imagine actually losing her.
