I'll never understand the lack of support for UT baseball. Seems like a pretty popular sport around East Tn and even when the K Jays were still in town they drew pretty decent crowds. Like Prof said, the Smokies get good crowds in Sevierville. It baffles me...maybe people don't like the parking around Lindsay-Nelson or something.

Baseball in general is very popular in E. TN. My hometown had so many baseball fields it was actually pretty outrageous given the population. Everyone played little league baseball and softball too (the girls games were just as popular) and we even won the little league world series at least once in both baseball and softball.

So yeah, E. TN would support our BaseVols, imo. But like I said before, UT has never bothered advertising the games or really promoting it until now. They've actually done a better job promoting our Softball team but until recently we had separate ADs for men/women and the women's AD was far more competent about promoting all of the women's sports whereas the men's AD only really focused on football (which didn't exactly need to be promoted) until recently.

Vols promote women better outside of football

Seems to be true with W basketball, softball, and volleyball.

And rowing.

I just hope it continues now that they've basically merged the AD. We were one of the few universities in the country that had separate athletic depts. and it greatly advantaged our women's athletics to be completely independent and managing their own affairs. I'm still not happy Dave Hart merged them. He basically did so because the men's dept. was such a catastrophe it needed the stability and good PR the women's AD added by combining the two. It was a short term gain and in the long run, I think it will hurt us.

It's amazing what winning does to attendance. Just wait, I loved going to games when I was a student

This is true. Our SoftVols returned home to a hero's welcome after Omaha. Not only were fans there but even the football team and all the coaches were there to greet them. They were shocked at their welcome home. What really blew the team away though was that they gained a lot of fans nationwide by the way they played at Omaha - not just new fans that were already Tennessee fans but fans from all over the country that admired their play and let them know.

On the baseball side... Despite the support for our BaseVols not being where it needs to be. The difference between last year and this year is night and day. Last year? No one followed them and I don't remember hearing them mentioned once on UT boards in all the years prior to this one. This year? We hear about them on fan boards and on twitter all the time. There's an excitement around the program and Coach Serrano and people are starting to pay attention even if it's only casually (that never happened before). There's also finally an effort to reach out to fans and promote the team although I still think UT needs to do more on that front.

I don't really consider it choking since no one ever thought they'd get that far but yeah the previous games were obviously better games for them.

Tn was really good last season when I. Renfroe was on top of her game, and has been dominant for a pretty good while now.

Honestly thought they or UF would win the first natty for the SEC

Agree. And those two are still the two programs that I think have the best shot of bringing it home, imo.

V30 - I think you're right about OKC. Had Omaha on the brain.

Bama hitting is too inconsistent and UF as a team is inconsistent...wouldn't be surprise to see both of them fall in Supers.

While I agree inconsistency is an issue for both, they could get hot at exactly the right time and go further.

That said our SoftVols are positioned well this year, imo. We've absolutely destroyed some damn good teams. I really hope the stars align for them and this year is the year the SEC brings home a natty.
