This kid is really growing on me.
The Bauta Option
The Bauta Option
quote:
"Whether that's the case or not, I'm going to be in there grinding every day like I'm first on the depth chart or last on the depth chart," Bauta said. "It shouldn't matter. To be honest, it's never going to affect my motivation of what I'm doing. If I'm the No. 2 guy or No. 3 guy or whatever the case may be, my preparation and work ethic can never stop. "I have to be prepared, because you never know what can happen."

I wish we had more that thought like this

True, that was a huge problem with Willie's D. We always gave it to the upperclassmen instead of who earned it.

Kid gets it. He's preparing for rain.

He's always been regarded as someone who works his tail off, and that's awesome. I hope Bobo finds a way to get him on the field this year..
Maybe a little shotgun formation with Hall and Hicks as H-Backs, and let him pound the rock on short yardage situations...play action also a possibility..idk, wishful thinking

Honestly, I think we see something like this a few times a game. It looked like they showed a little of it in the bowl game.

I'm all for Bauta getting more looks. Like I've mentioned before, I'd like a game to be 85% Mason and 15% Bauta. He adds another dynamic.

Would be so awesome. Have a couple Tight Ends in there, a receiver out wide to keep the defense honest, play action fake and throw a bomb on a third and 1 and Sanford goes nuts....we can only hope

several places run a QB Iso pop pass where the QB sucks up the LBers and then dumps it to a fullback or TE on a seam route I'd love to see this added to our playbook.

I'm thinking Bauta in the pistol, Hicks at H-Back, Gurley at tailback, Marshall motioning in on the fly sweep or as the pitch man. Mitchell or JSW split out wide.
Triple option look from hell.

the wrecking bauta

If for no other reason, having a bauta package a few times a game means opponent dc's have to prepare for it, and every minute they do, is another minute they arent preparing for the Mason/Gurley package.

This.

Bauta plays offense.

While the work ethic is amazing, putting in Bauta instead of Mason would be silly at this point. Mason is miles ahead of any of the backup QB's at this point in time.

Am I the only one here that cringes when the "running" qb is trotted out for one play....everyone in the stadium knows he's going to run....he gets stuffed...and the the regular qb comes back? Wasted play.
If we're going to do this it needs to be for a series and can't be all option runs. I'd love to see the variety but we need to be smart about it.
