Kept listenng to the Masters waiting to hear a "Hunger Games Motha fricker" after one of Watson's or Speith's shots....would have been awesome....

Also, why no live reporting? an opportunity missed, imo

Do they own the airspace? This could have been possible

No you can't even take your phone in if you haven't they send you back to the car with it Thursday-Sunday.

Yes the own the airspace and yes flying that wouldn't be a good idea.

Hell no. Not even close....

If you were lucky enough to get on the list years ago, you get your 4-day badges for every single Masters Tournament FOR LIFE. As in......until you are dead and buried in a hole somewhere.

And so, the number on your badge is attached to your name and they can and will and do cancel people's lifetime badges if they are stupid and frick up......

All that may kind of make it sound militant and strict, but that's really not the case. At all. The place is so beautiful and awe-inspiring that you kind of just naturally tread lightly and whisper and make sure that you are always being Respectful.........Kind of like being in some ornate Cathedral or something......or in Church or at the edge of the Grand Canyon..... where you don't even think about it, but instead you just naturally find yourself whispering and showing respect out of Reverence and awe..

I'll yell that shite at any other sporting event though.

I remember a few years ago......when Tiger made his debut return to golf at the Masters after the scandal broke. Some dip shite had hired a small prop plane to fly a banner with all these lame jokes about Tiger's sex life....

......but when the pilot landed to refuel an FAA inspector just conveniently and myseriously happened to be waiting there for him to do a surprise inspection on the safety of his airplane.

Long story short, the airplane was grounded by the FAA and prevented from flying due to a faded safety warning label on one of the seat-belts.

No more banners were seen that weekend.

Great Quote I read yesterday Jeff...

quote:

The Masters is different... if the members want to monetize the Masters to the maximum, they would charge triple the prices from the badge to the pimento cheese sandwich. They could double the number of people admitted to the tournament and still be able to put on a grand event. The bottom line is that’s not what President-in-Perpetuity Robert T. Jones wanted when he built Augusta National and started the tournament. He wanted the best golf tournament in the world and he got it. I’ll also say Billy Payne has done a whale of a job as Chairman. He understands Augusta’s role in growing the game and has done in a way that would make Mr. Jones proud.

Here's another quote comparing watching a round at Augusta to the UGA football gameday experience as an event...

quote:

The brain trust in Athens has been trying to find ways to squeeze the fans who come to the games since at least the dawn of the Adams era. As long they kept squeezing, and everyone kept paying, they figured they hadn’t hit us hard enough and kept squeezing harder.

The gentlemen who run Augusta National aren’t altruists by any means, but they have always, always, always, taken great pains to ensure that the patrons who care enough to come to the tournament are treated like guests, not ATMs with feet. Does CBS throw bucketloads of money at them for the privilege of televising the event? Absolutely. Does Augusta National let CBS dictate weird starting times, sponsors, signage, or anything that would impair the experience at the tournament for the patrons? Absolutely not. Could they make more money if they did? Sure. Could Augusta National “create new revenue streams” by “monetizing” parking, concessions, “branded sportswear” and accessories, and most of all, jacking up ticket prices to the level of NY Yankees box seats, or selling “personal badge licenses”? Duh.

It would be nice if the folks who run UGA figured out that the world isn’t going to end if they allow the people who care enough to come to the games to feel like honored guests, or family, instead of suckers to be cash vacuumed into submission. It would be especially nice if they figured that out before those of us getting cash vacuumed realize we have a superior viewing experience in front of our HD Dolby stereo tv, where the line to the bathroom is non-existant, the food is plentiful and inexpensive, and the drinks are cold and can be consumed without dodging law enforcement.

The ADs, presidents, etc, may think they have a captive audience and there’s no limit to the amount of abuse fans will take, but once things hit the tipping point, there may be no going back. It happens all the time. Market created, providers ride the wave up, and mistakenly assume it will never peak, and then suddenly they’re riding it straight down.

How about how Saturday and Sunday at The Masters is broadcast on TV virtually commercial free?. With only 4 minutes of commercials per hour.......

And how badass was it back when the "equality" police were threatening to start a boycott of the 3 companies that sponsor The Masters?.....and so they simply broadcast the Tournament COMMERCIAL-FREE on cbs two years straight......to render the pathetic finger-wagging whiners powerless!......

All thanks to the inspiration of the great native Georgian Bobby Jones......and the legacy of his philosophy on what he wanted his event to stand for.....

100% about the competitors and the competition.

Amazing.
