Speech

quote:

The speech which follows is a third person narrative. From innumerable sources; magazine articles, newspaper clippings, motion picture biographies and newsreels, and books, I have put together the most complete version possible that encompasses all of the material that is available to date.

Great line: "As for the types of comments I make", he continued with a wry smile, "Sometimes I just, By God, get carried away with my own eloquence."

Thanks for the link. If anything I figured George C. Scott probably exaggerated his gruffness. Nope!

Patton is simply awesome. I love when he threatened to blow Phenix City AL off the map because the sheriff had a couple of his guys in jail and would only let them out if they paid money. Patton rolled his tanks out of ft Benning and pointed them at the town.

Patton was considered to be the best Allied general by the Germans. Ike used him to trick the Germans at least once by putting patton in one place (I think Dover) and tricking the Germans intot hinking the invasion of Normandy would come through Calais. The Germans couldn't imagine the allies wouldn't give command of the invasion to their 'best general'.

He was a perfect General for the army and time period (US; 1942-1945). The closest comparison for tactics I could see would be Grant (1864-1865).

Tactical Manual:
Hey diddle-diddle, straight up the middle.

"Don't forget," Patton barked, "you men don't know that I'm here. No mention of that fact is to be made in any letters. The world is not supposed to know what the hell happened to me. I'm not supposed to be commanding this Army. I'm not even supposed to be here in England. Let the first bastards to find out be the Goddamned Germans. Some day I want to see them raise up on their piss-soaked hind legs and howl, 'Jesus Christ, it's the Goddamned Third Army again and that son-of-a-fricking-bitch Patton'."

quote:

"We want to get the hell over there", Patton continued, "The quicker we clean up this Goddamned mess, the quicker we can take a little jaunt against the purple pissing Japs and clean out their nest, too. Before the Goddamned Marines get all of the credit."

That is pretty good stuff!
