For those who know stuff about Opelika, what are the nice parts of Opelika? Where are the parts I should stay away from?

That's what I was thinking but I vaguely remember Sandman (not sure) saying there was some old money there. Where do they live? What do they do about crime etc?

Crime rates between Auburn and Opelika are pretty comparable. Like Auburn there are some places you dont want to be caught hanging out if you don't know the community but it's not Montgomery. There are aren't any places that you would fear for you life if you took a wrong turn and ended up there.

Somewhat true. They aren't so disproportionate as to say extreme but there absolutely is higher crime statistics in Opelika vs Auburn

Back on point though, what are the good areas/safe places and where do you avoid?

National Village at Grand National would be one place I would look. Craftsman style homes.

The farther you go up 10th St/Oak Bowery up to Morris Ave, the nicer it gets. Anything around Northgate Dr, India Rd, Denson, etc. (elementary/middle school area) is safe and quiet. Blackhawk Dr area has some money. I much prefer it to living in Auburn for many reasons.

come on man... opelika isn't dangerous (no more dangerous than any other small/medium sized rural alabama city).

Yeah, it isn't like a huge metro city that you can't tell where you want to live and where you don't...

Just go talk to a cop or sheriff in the area if you're really that worried.

Hell, if you were looking in the Bankhead/Vine City area of Atlanta, worry!

Opelika? Treat others as you want to be treated.

This.

The north side of Opelika is fine (that's where a lot of that "old money" is, up Oak Bowery), though there's a trailerhood area out near the old Uniroyal plant.

We lived out off of India for a while and it's a nice, quiet place. Not too "uppity" like some parts around there. Got one brother that still lives around there and one that did, but recently moved out into the boonies

The south side is what you want to stay away from, particularly the square made by 280/Gateway, 51/Geneva/10th Street, and Pepperell Parkway (Opelika Rd). But once you go down past Gateway you start getting into Beauregard, which is just hickville.

I grew up on India and can vouch for this. What years were you over there?

Like others said, the North side of town is all pretty good. You can't go wrong with N. 3rd-10th St, Collinwood, Oakbowery, Northgate, India, Rocky Brook, Camelot. Then there's a lot of newer stuff by the interstate in Stoneybrook.

We moved to Auburn in '98 when I was kindergarten, but all three of my older brothers (oldest of which is 20 years older than me) grew up around there
