Per source, expect #Arkansas corners coach Taver Johnson to accept the position at #Purdue this evening.
Arkansas: Don't be surprised if former Tampa Bay Bucs assistant special teams coach Phil Galiano emerges as a candidate to join the Arkansas staff. There will be no shortage of coaches that will try to get in touch with Bret Bielema.
Purdue: Per source, Arkansas corners coach Taver Johnson has interviewed for a position at Purdue. Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell is trying to fill the void left by Jon Heacock's departure to Toledo as the defensive coordinator. Hazell and Johnson coached together at Ohio State from 2007-2010. Per source, expect Johnson to accept the position late this afternoon or early this evening.

I'll just paste what I said in the other thread.
quote:
He basically got demoted when Smith took over corners as well as safeties. Not really surprising but it sucks. Time to get a good, cheap recruiter to share Smith or Randy's job.
ETA: or hire a pure QB coach

Isn't he going to be DC? If that is true then we certainly cannot blame him, demotion or not.
ETA: I like the guy but have generally been unimpressed with his group the past couple years.

Everyone was discussing in the coaching search thread. Title could probably use an update.

Thanks, just noticed it. That thread is so big and takes too much time to get caught up. No need to update title, let it die and start a new search thread if/when Taver leaves his post.

Am I the only one glad about this?
Taver sucks, I gave him a few years but our corners are terrible and did little improving under him, and I don't think he recruited shite.

The only thing that I will miss about him is his connections in Georgia, but mine are still pretty strong and I should be able to handle his load until we get someone hired.
Edit: unless the rental housing market crashes.

He was only CBs coach for one year

It's a done deal. Was listening to Bo on the drive home and Roussel was on. He got a text during the interview confirming Taver to Purdue.
I'm glad we're putting the DB's all together with the same coach in the same room watching the same things and talking the talk and generally being on the same page and knowing everyone's responsibilities in all situations. I talked about doing that at the end of the season.
I think we might go get a QB coach. More wishing than anything.

The more I think about this, the more I like it

his connections in Georgia that landed us Khalia Hackett and Chris Murphy? I know it's hard to recruit to Arkansas especially these last two year but lots of misses
I don't remember him coming here with GA connections, I thought he got that area and was building those relationships, I may be wrong.

Taver was a rah rah guy, nothing wrong with that but I think Bielema is wanting a more cerebral Xs and Os guy right now.
Good luck to Taver, the guy is a good coach, just not the right fit in this situation.
