Been looking for a good upper body workout to help me put some muscle on my lanky arse frame. Any suggestion from the meatheads/ Swoliders out there?

Start with lots of pushups and pull ups.

Really a lot of basic weightlifting workouts revolve around the same principles, just different configurations and options. You shouldnt just be doing a specific group only. However if you want to focus on a certain group, you want to do them multiple times a week, 2-3 tops. You need rest just as much in between though.

You divide into the major groups and their secondaries, then add an option.

Majors
Chest works well with triceps
Back works well with bicep
Shoulders
Legs

Options
Abs
Calves

You can do abs and calves quite a bit,

So a basic weekly routine that focuses on chest

Chest, tris, abs
Back, bi, calves
Rest
Legs, abs
Chest tri, calves
Shoulder, abs
Rest

As far as daily workouts in groups. Should be doing at least 3 workouts for each muscle group. Make sure you are getting each side of the muscle. Like upper and lower chest. I do 4 sets major, 3 sets secondaries, 2-3 sets of the options.

As far as in the sets, always warm up, then start your real sets for each muscle group. Add weight with each set. Some people have different beliefs on final set. Some max and are done. Some max, quick rest, then max again. Some max, then drop weight and lift more. Etc....

Hope this isn't too confusing or typed like shite. I'm on my iPad.

Also, eat a shite ton of protein and drink lots of water.

If you can't do that many, do as many as you can. I usually do push ups and triceps lifts every two days.

Remember to rest. Resting is crucial, and take in a lot of protein. Doesn't really matter where it comes from.

LOL. Hey, people see what they want to see.

Very good comment though, haven't laughed like that all morning.

I will add into this thread instead of starting a new one.

My buddy and I both had the same notion of starting to lift and we want to stick to 3 days a week, very generic upper body workout. We are both big guys to start so bulking up isn't a concern we would rather just tone up. Lower body workout isn't very desired either since we are both big guys that are on our feet all day and doing cardio would probably do everything we want for this.

So to summarize, we want a simple, generic upper body workout that hits the major arms and chest and can be done without spending more than an hour in the gym.

I hate to be that guy, but you'll never have anything more than an average physique if you're not doing legs. And before you say it, I highly doubt your legs are "big enough". Then again, its your choice and good luck with your goals.
