and the fake Ole Miss NCAA investigation letter...

Here it is.

Hello sir. You have my permission to post this on NAFOOM should you see fit.

I see that Coach34 has finally gotten back the courage to emerge from twitter hiding after deleting his twitter account following the fake NCAA letter prank. So I thought this would be an appropriate time to tell the whole story behind the NCAA letter. Some of this is a little sordid, so be warned in advance.

There is a fairly notorious yet technically “underground” bar in Shreveport that caters to the gay, transsexual and transvestite community. They have private rooms with couches in the back for those seeking more private company. (I’ll leave it at that.) I have an old friend who is (was) a bartender and part owner there, although as far as I know he has no involvement in that “lifestyle” (nor do I).

A couple of years ago a man started coming in fairly regularly and sitting at the bar a couple of times a week. This guy became a regular. He often wore an MSU hat and spoke of MSU quite a bit. There were a few “female” transvestite/transsexual regulars that he would meet up with and retire to the back. (My friend was very careful to point out that he has no knowledge of what went on in the back, so as far as he knows it could have just been talking.) Anyway, this man would sometimes drink a lot and would start talking about how he’s some MSU bigwig, how he’s got all these sources inside the MSU athletic department, how he has a big internet following, etc. (My friend is not from the South and is a Purdue fan, for what it’s worth, so he doesn’t really care much about the Ole Miss/MSU rivalry stuff.) As time went on he claimed to be personally responsible for having Stansbury fired by rallying internet support against him. At first the guy was vague about his internet identity, but eventually he confided in my friend that he went by “Coach34” on MSU message boards but made my friend promise to keep it a secret. This was about the time that EliteDawgs launched, and he talked about it constantly, how he was “finally going to make some money off his fame,” how he has more influence over the MSU fan base than anyone, etc. At one point he gave my friend his email address, which was the EliteDawgs account (elitedawgs@gmail.com). This was also about the time that Coach34's constant boasting about his internet fame grew old and began to annoy my friend a great deal. (Coach34 also started getting more obnoxious/drunk according to my friend. On one occasion he started a fight with a transvestite and was beaten up and kicked out and banned for a week, but he returned.)

Fast forward to late September/early October. Coach34 would talk more and more about how he was going to “personally bring down Ole Miss,” how several EliteDawgs posters had information of NCAA violations, etc. It was all he talked about. He eventually started saying how he was hearing Ole Miss had received a letter from the NCAA. By this time my friend was convinced he was completely full of shite. Shortly thereafter my friend and I had a conversation where the rumors of Ole Miss NCAA violations happened to come up. He started laughing and mentioned this loser who comes into his bar who calls himself Coach34, having no idea that I was familiar with him from the internet. (Although I have no idea who he is in real life.) My friend, who went to law school and practiced law for a couple of years and is pretty good with photoshop, then had the idea of making a fake NCAA letter and sending it to Coach34 at the email address he had provided as a prank to see if he could get him to post it. I thought it sounded like a funny idea but didn’t think he would really go through with it or that it would work.

But about a week later my friend called and then emailed me the fake letter, which looked legit to me. He said he found threads on EliteDawgs discussing the letter and what it supposedly said, and he used those and also found some similar NCAA sanctions letters on the internet to go by and copied the NCAA letterhead. My friend wanted to just let Coach34 think the letter was legit and let him run with it and embarrass himself without revealing it was a prank, so the hidden “LOL at Coach34" language was not in there initially. That was my idea. I thought it would be funny to expose it as a fraud. So my friend added the LOL hidden language, took two pictures of the letter, one with the “LOL at Coach34" circled, and emailed them back to me.

I then set up the gmail account and emailed Coach34 at the EliteDawgs address saying I was an anonymous EliteDawgs poster and innocently asked if he would be interested in the NCAA letter to Ole Miss. (The email came from a different address than this one. No one other than Coach34 and me know the name of that address. So I can further prove all of this is legit by disclosing the name of that email address that has not been disclosed.) About a day later I received a response saying yes, he would be very interested. I then emailed him back explaining that I would need assurance that my anonymity would be protected before I would send the letter, that I could lose my job, etc. He agreed to protect my anonymity. So I then emailed him the picture of the letter (the one without the letters circled, obviously).

Once I emailed the letter to Coach34 I had no further communications with him. He didn't ask how I got it, how I knew it was legit, nothing. But within minutes one of his ED followers started a thread that "IT is coming" in one hour. Apparently he had shared it with a few of them and they were crowing about how awesome it was. Once I was convinced they were about to post the letter, I sent an email to the SixPackSpeak email address listed on the website stating that a fake letter's about to be posted and that I would prove its falsity later. (SPS had no other involvement in the incident.) I let the gag go on for about an hour, long enough for Coach34 to defend the letter and tweet it to the masses, and then I sent the second letter with the circled letters to SPS, and it was then posted on the SPS twitter feed and on SPS. (You can confirm this because when SPS tweeted it and started the thread on SPS, he specifically mentioned that he got the letter from this email address.) Hilarity ensured. Coach34 deleted his twitter account because he’s such a tough guy. (He’s back now, thankfully.)

P.S. My friend sold his interest in the bar in November and moved to Indiana, so I have no idea if Coach34 still goes to the gay/transvestite bar. Coach34 will know who my friend is based upon all of the above, but that’s ok. My friend’s not concerned now that he lives in Indiana, and in light of the fact he watched Coach34 get his arse kicked by a transvestite in high heels. (I’ll add one other fact in case there’s any doubt this is all legit. My friend had trouble getting the letterhead to line up correctly. If you zoom in and look very closely you can tell that the top of the vertical line to the right of the NCAA letterhead in the upper left corner is actually a double line – only at the top, the rest of the line is normal – that he was unable to get rid of. Also the letterhead fonts are blurry and different than the text of the letter because they were copied.)

The end?
