If smart follows Saban, will he be just another in house promotion that goes bust?
I can scarcely name a single in house promo that didn't suck.

Smart isn't gonna follow Saban. I have no clue what he'd be able to do because I feel Nick holds all decision making on the defense.

I think he is waiting for the Alabama or Georgia job. He will not settle for anything less. Wouldn't surprise me if he turned down several high profile offers already. He has been one of the most prolific DC in college football.

Kirby Smart isn't paid top dollars of $1.15 million while Saban does all the work. He obviously contributes significant amount to Bama's defense to warrant that type of cash. Nick Saban can't just raise salary of assistant coaches at will. He has to convince AD that Smart deserved it and AD talkes to the Bama board of trustees. Saban obviously thought Smart was phenomenal at what he does. He is aiming for Georgia, Bama, Florida, caliber job.

Jimbo Fisher is doing ok. Jim McElwain is doing a good job turning Colorado State around. Muschamp had Florida in a BCS Bowl last year. His main problem is he hasn't found a good enough OC. Derek Dooley and Bobby Williams flamed out, but neither had even been a coordinator before they became HC. I would never hire a guy they had not at least spent time as OC/DC somewhere.
