Ok I know I'm not nearly as detailed as some of y'all are in these kind of things but here is my take.

If you would have told me that at half Bama has 9 points I would have said "Then we must be leading at halftime" if I was told Bama finished with 25 I would have said "then there is a very good chance we won".

Our defense played Very well against the run minus the two long runs. Bama never really seemed to challenge us deep that much. But they easily completed passes underneath but our guys swarmed to the ball and normally made great gang tackles.

Offense. I mean damn not much to say. We just never seemed to get clicking. Lookin back on it Freeze should have taken the points when we had chances to. But on the opening drive I was ok with going for it there. Then on the final 2 we were in tough spots. Freeze knew field goals weren't going to win us the game and even though 25-9 or 25-6 look better than 25-0 either way is a loss. But overall I am a little disappointed in the O. I really thought we would lose in like a 37-24 kinda game. So the defense impressed me while the offense kinda shat the bed.

Before people really freak out we have to remember, who actually thought we would beat Bama? Now we need to get back on track and take care of auburn. I trust in Freeze to make the right decisions and learn from this game. We need to beat Auburn then try to take 1 from A&M/LSU.

Sorry I know it's a little scrambled up there but that's just how things were coming to my head haha.

I actually agree with everything you said. Should've taken that first field goal. But since we didn't, we had to go for it the rest of the game to try to win. And I'm okay with that. Nobody likes getting shut out but its not like we didn't have chances. I'm disappointed in the loss but not the shut out. I would've been just as disappointed had we lost 25-9.

No I didn't expect to win but I didn't expect our offense to look that bad in the loss.

On the bright side, 2 things.... 1. Defense looked great. They were on the field the whole game and gave out but I was very happy with their performance. 2. As bad as it seemed, it only counts as 1 loss. The sky is not falling. Auburn now is the most important game OM our schedule and I think we'll be ready to play. (I hope )

Saban out coached freeze. Our offense had gotten to simplified and we run the same plays over and over. Also In the sweep read play Alabama knew they could contain Bo so they just made sure the end stopped Jeff on the outside. If Bo was a better runner the game would have been A LOT different.

Completely agree. I'm disappointed in the offensive performance as well as the play calls, but the defense exceeded my expectations. And of course, as expected, there were a bunch of bullshite spots, but it's hard for me to get all that angry about it anymore when dealing with Bama.

And how about that targeting call? As soon as it went to review I told my wife it would be overturned...

Now not that I necessarily disagree with the call, i just overall hate the rule anyway. but was there ever really any doubt it would be overturned?

One good thing we can take from last night is that at the moment, of the 20 threads on the first page at Elitedawgs, 8 of them are about Ole Miss. Their obsession grows stronger.

Well I thought it was pretty clear targeting. Blow above the shoulders of a defenseless player. If Elston got suspended for his hit last year, this was worse. Engram misses the ball, takes two steps, and then gets lit up above the shoulders.

I haven't personally watched any games this year where the targeting penalty was upheld, so I don't have a reference for a hit that was upheld. I thought this was pretty clear cut though.

That being said, I'm not surprised at all it was overturned. However, I thought the refs were taught that if there was a doubt, it's targeting. I don't think there was any way you could say with out a doubt that it wasn't. So I'm not sure how it gets over turned.

I like courage and "going for it" as much as the next guy. however, If we'd have kicked the three gimme feild goals the 4th quarter starts with us only 7 points behind. At that point momentum is in our favor.

well the first one would not have been a gimme at 45+ yards

Exactly what I was about to say.

Looking back on it it was only gonna be a 7 point game if we kicked all 3 field goals. And IMO most coaches being on the road and opening possession against #1 Bama will go for it on 4th and short from the 30. So I have no issues with the first not being kicked.

Only one I REALLY questioned was the 4th and 10 late in the game. But again kicking there leaves us no chance at winning so why not go ahead and go for it.

In the end it was 25-0. But the game was FAR closer than the scoreboard said. We just couldn't convert 3rd and 2 or 4th and short. I think the 68 yard run that pushed it to 16-0 broke us. I know it broke me as a fan watching it.

Yep.

I saw someone else say it best, if Freeze had kicked those FGs (and assuming Ritter's unreliable arse hit any of them) then our fanbase would be screaming that if he had been more aggressive on 4th down then we could have won.

It's lose-lose.

I'm re-watching this game trying to find a reason to get excited about our game at Auburn this week.

Gotta get outta this funk!

The funk is not affecting my non-football life, but every time I think about Saturday I get depressed.

It might also have to do with the fact that I'll be at a fuggin wedding during the game.

Exactly. After the TAMU and Vandy games last year, I know a lot of fans realized that we lost because we kicked field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. Obviously the ideal solution would be to avoid 4th down altogether, but against a team like Alabama that's not always possible. The only 4th down I didn't like was the 4th and 10, but I understand the reasoning that a field goal still leaves it a 2 score game (2TDs and 2pt conversions to tie vs. 2TDs and PATs to go up by 1). Had Freeze even gone 3-4 on those 4th downs I doubt we would be having this conversation. If Treadwell gets a fair spot on the first attempt and tucks and runs on the second, that's exactly what would have happened.

I'm sure Freeze will take a lot of lessons from the game, but I don't think he is going to take his foot off the gas - especially in a game most commentators agree we were playing with house money. Either way, glad he's putting this behind the team and focusing on Auburn!
