It's (the strike) scheduled for Aug. 29. Among the workers' demands are a $15 per hour minimum wage and the right to form a union.

Historically, fast-food workers have been teenagers, but that's no longer the case. The average age for these employees tops 28.

Willietta Dukes, 39, of Durham, N.C., a mother of two, told The Washington Post she plans to walk off her job at Burger King on Aug. 29. Her highest salary after working for 15 years in the industry is $8.65 per hour. Rarely is she scheduled for a 40-hour week.

2 things..

1. I think that worker doesn't realize why she's not getting and a lot of others aren't getting full time hours any more.

2. Nothing cheap about fast food anymore anyways. You can literally, pay about 3 dollars more, and get a steak lunch at chili's or logan's roadhouse.

Not true about McDonalds, but the places that don't suck (Chickfila, Arbys, Zaxbys), it's really true.

Seeing how I don't eat a lot of fast food to begin with, I don't think will be a problem.

Maybe Willietta should find a job that pays higher. She's had 15 freakin years.

When you eat food prepared by strangers, you will inevitably consume some of their DNA. Accept that or prepare your own meals.

Imagine paying this guy $15/hr to do this: Snot on a hoagie.

I was thinking after 15 frickin years, she'd be a manager - a real one - not one of a dozen of the "assistant managers" these places seem to have on a given day.
And yeah, you'd think she would figure out sooner than 15 years, making less than $10/hour, that she needed a "career" change.

frick fast food workers. On the rare occasion that I eat fast food, those idiots can't even get my fricking simple order right. Why the hell do they think that they deserve $15/hr?

They may get better workers that can get the order right for 15 dollars an hour.

No shocker here, but apparently fast food workers don't understand the concept of "leverage".

There are literally thousands of unemployed people with similar minimal job skills lining up to take their jobs.

I hope all of these people are replaced that day with young people willing to actually work for these wages.

I know. I'm sure there will be news stories about how they lost their jobs to someone else the day they decided to strike.
