BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham sports-talk radio station ESPN 97.3 The Zone is going off the air less than two years after the station launched in August 2011, clearing the way for Paul Finebaum's new ESPN radio show to return to WJOX 94.5 FM, AL.com learned today.

The Zone's last day on the air will be Friday, according to multiple Birmingham radio sources. The station is expected to announce the news it to its staff Wednesday morning.

Finebaum's new ESPN show will originate out of Charlotte and will be carried on stations around the Southeast beginning around the first week of August. In Birmingham, it is expected to air weekdays in its regular 2 to 6 p.m. time slot

Does this move the roundtable back to it's original spot and do the Texas boys get waivers?

So there's basically no difference other than Paul works for ESPN now and makes a lot more money?

Let Paul go to a AM station and leave the jox line up alone.

Figures

The Zone was atrocious radio. Seriously, seriously, horrible in every possible way. And, Scarbinsky needs to just move to a different market, this has to be his hint that he lost it locally in Alabama.

Same type of shite arse employee that lets the press know what's up before his own players.

wow..I did not see this coming. I was happy with their AM show but would swap over to wjox from 10 on..the guys from Dallas grew on me and once they got acclimated to Bham and Alabama stuff they got better.

Jim D. is by far the best personality in the Bham market on either channell. But this makes no sense if 97.3 is an espn affiliate then why are they not covering PF?
