I had surgery about 4 years ago, and everything went fine. My knee has been about as strong as ever besides some tenderness on the top of my knee.

However, it sometimes has a little pop to it when I walk. Nothing painful at all. Lately, I have been pretty active physically with the job that I am doing, and it is been popping more. Again, not painful or debilitating at all. It just freaks me out a little bit.

I assume that its just loose cartilage or something. Should I get it checked out?

Doesn't sound like anything major but I would mention it your doctor next you go as long as you arent having any pain. If it starts hurting I'd go see a doctor ASAP.

Yeah, mine started acting up on me, so I finally went and got a MRI. Turns out I tore the graft.

Still haven't fixed it. What's the point? I'm just gonna tear it again.

Did they just do surgery on the ACL or did you tear the meniscus as well? I have stiffness in mine from time to time if I'm really active but no popping.

I'd mention it to your doc so that they can check and make sure you're not having stability issues with one of the other ligaments/tissues.

So yours started hurting again? Or just seemingly harmless popping like mine?

That is nothing major at all. I recently finished pt and asked the same question to the doctor.

I had my meniscus repaired as well. My doctor is in Tuscaloosa, and I dont live there anymore. I guess I need to find another one.

Sometimes when the meniscus tears it'll slide (it's like an onion) and cause a popping. But that usually also comes with your knee feeling like it's going out all together.

You're probably fine. I'd still run it by a doc just to be on the safe side though.

Well, it started hurting again, but I probably tore it kickboxing.

Normally, as long as there is no pain it is usually joint crepitus. It's grating and popping sounds that your joints make. As long as there is no pain, you should be ok.

Thanks, Coastie. I figured it was okay since there was no real pain, it just freaks me out when there is any kind of pop.

I never really had any respect for my reconstructed knee, and I just don't have the heart to go through surgery again. I can still run, so I'm not worried.

yeah, surgery sucks. I'm fairly comfortable with mine when playing basketball, yard football, etc., but I usually have to make myself not think about it.

I've had ACL and MCL repair, and meniscus repair (4 times). I haven't had a problem with either the acl or mcl. However every time my knee starts to pop it has been caused by a tear in the meniscus. If your knee is anything like mine, it won't hurt at first, the gradually the pain will increase and it will start to catch.

I had my ACL rebuilt back in September of 2011 and the thing pops all the time when I bend it.

On top of that I still do not even have the ability to place all my weight on that leg and bend it, not to mention the pain that always comes around if I do anything that is remotely active. Before anyone asks, yes I did go to rehab and to this day I still do my exercises. Gonna have to get a 2nd opinion I'm afraid.

I'd say it's probably scar tissue popping. Nothing to worry about.

FWIW, I'm a student PTA.

ETA: I'm not an expert like MSCoastie, though, so I'd go with her answer.

Mine pops every time I bend my knee.....but I've had multiple surgeries on the same knee. It still freaks me out every time I hear it pop. The worst is the grind sound it makes....almost like sand grinding together

I've had ACL MCL PCL and meniscus repaired after I blew my knee out in highschool. When this happened to me they just said my ligaments had over tightened and I needed to strech. They put me on an 2 hours a day streching routine and swimming 3 times a week. After 3 weeks I was doing great and no popping at all. Not to mention more interesting things in bed.

But then again that's military medicine. WHOA

Forgot to mention I also shattered the top 1/3 of my knee cap.
