Seth Greenberg, thoughts?

Would he be a good option at AU? If not, who would be a good hire that AU could actually get?
Let's exclude Pearl for the purposes of this thread.

The way he left Va Tech would have me worried.
UTEP got a better coach when Barbee left, but he really likes El Paso.
Larry Eustachy or Gregg Marshall is who I would call.

Why would he give up Robot Chicken to come to Auburn?

Greenberg would feel a whole lot like our last ACC retread, cliff ellis. Granted, Ellis did a decent job here, but we should strive for something better, IMO.

I'm fine with that, but who better could we get?

Can't we just bring Ellis back home? He's got Coastal Carolina to the NIT 2 of the last 3 seasons.
This is a joke by the way...sort of...

But Barbee is a great recruiter.

We suck so fricking bad at basketball. The frustrating part is seeing these kids leave the state to play at other schools. With our recruiting base (Alabama, Georgia, and Florida), we should be able to put together a decent team every year. By decent, I mean NIT or better on the reg.

Ellis did a decent job here

Frick no.
We just built a $92 MILLION state-of-the-art arena. Going out and paying for a decent coach shouldn't be that hard. The SEC is a mediocre conference at best, and we STILL can't compete. It makes no sense. We won't ever be a world-beater in hoops, but we can be a lot better than this. But we need somebody better than Seth frickin' Greenberg.
Somebody earlier posted Greg Marshall. That's more like it.
I was actually in favor of the Barbee hire, and he deserves another year where he has a decent center and point guard that can do something other than defend, but if we don't finish close to .500 or better in the conference next year, I'm in favor of showing Barbee the door. It will his fourth year. Time to do something. Anything.

I would love Marshall, but let's be real, Wichita State is the better basketball program. Plus, he has them rolling over there.

True on all counts.
Maybe he'd like the challenge of coaching in a major conference?
But if he can get to the tournament at Wichita every year, probably no reason to come here.

Gogue had his chance and blew it. I wish the BOT would send Gogue and Jacobs out together.

I would argue that VT is just as hard a place to win in basketball as AU and they are in a superior basketball conference. He made them consistently a bubble team, had multiple 20+ win seasons and got to the tournament at least once that I can remember. That is a big step forward from where we are right now.
I'm not a huge Seth Greenberg fan, I just want to hear a list of reasonable names that we could hire that could move our program forward.

It was his job to bring in his recruits to play but we are still seeing Chubb at center and our players from Lebos teams. Why?

I don't think we can land a name coach if we fire Barbee after this season. It makes me sick to suck this bad and there isn't a damn thing that can be done about it until after the 13-14 season.
Leave Chu......frick it. He has been playing some extremely shitty basketball even by Chubb standards the last 4 weeks.
