Question for Tennessee fans...

Obviously you guys are pissed at your coaching situation, but I have to ask the question:
Do you think your football team is better this year than they have been the last 2 years?
I understand the 3-5 record, but your losses are to #1, #6, #7, #8, #15 currently in the BCS. You have one of the best passing attacks in the SEC, and you probably should finish out at 7-5 this year before bowl season (barring an upset to Troy, Vandy, Mizzou, or Kentucky).
I think Lane Kiffin stuffed y'all good and then bolted and Dooley was left fixing the mess and trying to right the ship. You guys will probably fire him and get a new coach (sorry, but Gruden isn't going to Knoxville) and this next coach will come in and build off the foundation that Dooley is trying to create out of the crap that Kiffin left.
If you don't believe Kiffin had any part in your downfall, look at what he is doing at USC. The guy has conned his way into 3 head coaching jobs, done a subpar job at each and continues to make bank.....smh
As I asked in the beginning, Do you think this year's Tennessee team is better than the team has been the past 2 years under Dooley?
I'll hang up and listen.....

There are two types of head coaching hires: Caretakers and Winners. Dooley was a caretaker.
I don't think many people thought he was the best possible guy for the job, but he was clean and would stabilize the program after the disaster that was Lane Kiffin. I don't think Dooley has had much of a chance to be successful considering the mess he was in when he got there.

I agree and considering, he also plays Bama every year, played LSU and Arky last year as well and now FLorida is back in the top 10, SCar is putting it together, UGA is a decent run.....
No way he had a chance to succeed there in the timeframe they were going to give him.
Feel bad for the guy tbh.

This team is worse than the team Lane Kiffin coached. It is probably equivalent to the team Dooley coached his first year. It is better than last year's team.

Dooley is a loser.

Careful, I've been posting things like this in all of the various Tennessee coaching threads. Kiffin left a mess, and they are making progress. As you pointed out, their losses this year are to very good team and they just aren't there yet.
I suspect they will win out and go 7-5. I don't understand why fans don't see that as progress.
I guess they don't like Dooley because of Saban's success, that's all I can figure.

It would be hypocritical for a Bama fan to ever laugh at another program being impatient and screwing up coaching hires.
That being said, I agree with the OP. I still think Dooley is a solid coach. In all honesty, I hope auburn keeps Chizik forever. But other than the fact that I hate to see a good man lose his job, as a Bama fan I don't want Dooley at Tennessee.

Not a UT fan but unless they already have a commitment from a big name college coach through back channels then I think they're doing a disservice to both their program and Dooley. Give him the rest of the year. If he wins out and wins a bowl I think he's earned another year

Dooley will get another year to prove himself. They return almost everyone next year and it should be a good year. If you hire a new guy he would have a good year, but Dooley would have built it. Reminds me of Nutt's 1st yr at Arky, Danny Ford knew he would have a good team that year.

One more year, he deserves it. Your 4th year is the head coaches true team. Plus I do not want the competition for quality head coaches.

2010: 7-6 (3-5)
2011: 5-7 (1-7)
2012: 3-5 (0-5)
This is also the easiest the schedule has been during Dooley's tenure.
So to answer your question, it's not significantly better.

If Dooley is given another year, I will not be watching. However, there's nothing to worry about, because Dooley will not get another year.

Still possible to go 3-5 in SEC play and 7-5 overall. Win a bowl, 8-5. Yes, that is improvement with lots of talent back for 2013.
Fire him if you want to though and start over again.

3-5
1-7
3-5
That is not improvement.
The only way this would be different than 2010 is that we didn't play Oregon this year. Other year it would still be another regular season with at least 6 losses. Dooley is shite.

honestly i believe dooley is the best coach that has been at Tennessee in a long time. People at Tennessee jumped the gun with fulmer and have been screwed every since this is the most dangerous team that they have had in a while. At least the offense gives them a chance

So tons of coaches come in to historically great programs and turn it around in one year (look at what Boom did with Urban's disaster). Are people really still thinking that Dooley isn't an unmitigated disaster? I sometimes wonder what people are smoking on here.
Bottom line:
Team hasn't progressed.
Dooley will not be retained.
Other coaches have done more at similarly situated schools.

Coach before Dooley and coach after Dooley both won the conference within their first two years at La Tech. Dooley was 5-7, 8-5, 4-8 in his three years there. Just some more stats to go with the plethora of mind-numbingly bad ones he's racked up while at UT. He is a shite coach.

Dooley is terrible. I can't fathom why anybody would think he's an SEC caliber coach. The only reason I can come up with is that you watch us once a year, when your respective team is bending us over, and somehow that constitutes a good coach. We might not even be favored against Vandy this year, and could potentially finish last in the East for a second consecutive year.

One of the few intelligent people to post on this matter. For this, I commend you.
