Help me understand this: I think we threw to Moncrief 6 times yesterday (i havent looked at any stats, just trying to recall from being in the stadium and not having the benefit of the TV stats)
We threw him three screen passes that went for a total of about zero yards. Then Bo hit him over the middle on a hitch route on a critical 3rd down that he flat dropped. Then Bo overthrew him on a Go route in the 4th quarter. Then went back to the screen pass that actually worked for a (my guess) 20-yard gain late in the game.
Another time, on a big 3rd down that went incomplete I noticed we had three guys in the pattern: Sanders, Logan, and Neat. I couldnt find Moncrief anywhere, he might not have even been in the game for all I know.
Sanders had the one "almost catch" that was reviewed. Then Logan had the great catch in traffic. Other than that, did we throw the ball downfield all day?
I am not really being critical. I am just curious if this was the game plan coming in, or did AU just throw some sort of defense at us that sent us to more short passes and runs? Can anyone elaborate?
What happened to Feed Moncrief?

double coverage by every team we play makes it hard to get him open for big plays that take longer than a few seconds to develop. The double coverage opens up ja-mes, sanders and everyone else to have bigger roles. the safeties usually key in on his side of the field in zone coverage and keep the deep ball away from him.

I think that's Freeze's style. He has a lot of variations of plays that get 5-7 yards. If he thinks he can go 80 yards with easy reads/throws that move the chains, no need to risk it, especially in the lead. Wallace was 17 for 22, with Moncreif dropping 1 and him throwing 1 way.

I also think Freeze is trying to limit Bo's mistakes a little bit.

There is a safety over the top on him in addition to the corner. No reason to Wallace to go deep to him when there is that type of coverage.

I disagree. i am in favor of once every drive throwing it deep as bo can throw and try to let donte run under it. has worked several times

I am not that radical about it. I just think that we need to get the ball downfield more. Arkansas will be an interesting test of how the offense is developing
