| Will State sign a good QB in 2013, or get left with scraps? Posted by Requiem For A Dawg Mullen has whiffed on more QBs than he has signed in his short tenure at State. Solid pick ups have been Dak Prescott and Tyler Russell. Mullen has had to settle for Dylan Favre (no longer on team) and Nick Schuessler. I feel like out of the 4 QBs that he has signed only Dak fits his system. This year our top targets are: Cord Sandberg (Dual) *** Ryan Buchanan (Pro) *** Devante Kincade (Dual) *** Anthony Jennings (Pro) *** All of these guys have solid offer lists, so I hope Mullen can finally sign one of his 1st choices. I don't think we have and shot at Buchanan, so we might as well mark him off. So SEC recruiting gurus will State get one of these guys or be left with some 2* with CUSA offers? ETA: I will give Dan credit for Prescott who had offers from LSU and TCU. I will also give him slight credit for Russell, but I don't think he was ever going anywhere but State. Max Staver out of Tennessee is another QB we have offered. He has been creating a buzz at camps lately. He is 6'5 235 and can sling it. LINK Reply Back to Top |
| Buchanan is likely an Ole Miss lock, he has family connections there. Reply Back to Top |

| I think Staver might be the best shot Miss St has, kid wants to play in the SEC and I really like him very underrated, Bama was interested in him coming in and throwing (how we are offering QBs now) until Nuss locked his sights on Bateman and Riley Ferguson This post was edited on 5/8 at 11:15 am Reply Back to Top |
| I like Staver ... I think hes a real sleeper in this class and has huge upside. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Mullen has done a hell of a lot better developing QBs than your last HC Houston Dale Nutt and Freeze has never recruited or coached a QB anyone has ever heard of. Reply Back to Top |

| I understand that we should go after the best available, but I would really like us to sign a dual threat guy. The read option is a bread and butter play of our offense. I also think it helps us with dual threat guys, since Auburn brought in Loeffler they will probably try to sign more pro style guys. State should be a good option for recruits that want to run and throw. Since Staver is another pro style guy it makes me believe Mullen wants to just go after the best he can get and then adjust his offense accordingly. Reply Back to Top |

quote: I doubt Buchanan goes to Bama as the #2 QB in the class when he can be the #1 QB at Auburn, Ole Miss, or maybe Florida Reply Back to Top |
| Probably Arky too. Reply Back to Top |
| I'm assuming they'd take Austin Allen (current QB Brandon Allen's little brother) before Buchanan Reply Back to Top Refresh |
