Can you really blame him? People forget that Brees had a seriously messed up shoulder at the time. The Saints got the steal of the century.

Was it not the medical staff that gave Saban the advice that Culpepper's injury was less threatening than Brees'?

i am sure that would be the case now if anyone asked. Maybe the dolphin fans might think otherwise.

New Orleans should build a memorial dedicated to that fine medical staff outside of the dome.

It's easy to pick on Saban for the choice, when hindsight is 20/20. I don't think any Saints fans could have dreamed that Brees would be as successful has he's been, when he first arrived in New Orleans.

NOBODY is picking on anybody. damn, you are sensitive about any comment dealing with saban or bama unless it's about how great they are. he just said he's glad he passed up on brees.

Once again, Saban wanted brees, but brees didnt PASS the physical. Plus Brees injury was considered Career ending.

Settle down. I'm just pointing out that this subject has been brought up time and time again. The "easy to pick on Saban" is just a phrase. People just like to constantly bring up the Brees/Culpepper thing, or the Vince Young deal to try and discredit Saban's talent evaluation. I'm not sayin the OP intended that, nor was my post even directed at the OP.

not picking on saban. And hindsight does matter here being that the superbowl was played yesterday. just simple stating that he passed on brees and lucky for us saint fans.

between this thread and the "saban passed on the corner that returned the pic" thread last night, you guys have a super bowl win and 2 moral victories in one night. that's awsome.

"Saban is still a bit irritated at the Dolphins' doctors, the same ones who told him during the offseason that free agent Drew Brees' injured right shoulder wouldn't heal in time for him to throw a football this fall. Later, the same medical staff gave Saban the green light to trade for quarterback Daunte Culpepper."

Every school in the country passed on Phillip Rivers as a QB, except NC State.
