Former LSU star and current Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu appeared on the Rich Eisen show Tuesday and as asked about the firing of his former coach Les Miles.
quote:

"I was heartbroken, Mathieu said. "Obviously, me and coach Miles have a pretty good relationship. We have stayed in contact through the years. Just talking, keeping up with each other."

"It's tough to see it happen to him. A guy who has won so many games, that was so dependable in a sense. A guy that had such great relationship with all of his players."

"But it's a business. These universities want to win championships and if you continue to fall short, you have to pay the price."

"At the end of the day, it was heartbreaking for all of his former players and current players. "

Patrick Peterson gets a lot of the credit for the success of TM7. The badger could have easily been Johnny Football and flaked out but PP7's counsel kept TM7 on the right path.

I was heart broken it took as long as it did to fire him.

I still love Les as a good person and recruiter but no so much as a coach. As Tyrann said, it is a business with some heart at the college level but the truth is on the next level of the NFL, it is strictly business.

Yeah. If he had just played every game in 2011, he would have had the Heisman. He was the most electrifying player on the best team in the country. Sad that he missed out on that but agree with all comments about his redemption.

He still has a pretty good chance of becoming the greatest defensive player ever.

He could have so easily fallen into the "me first" mentality and held a hard grudge against both LSU and Miles for his actions which led to his dismissal. However, he has both taken ownership and learned from his mistakes and now he is a better man because of it. Great to see continued loyalty to LSU and Miles from him despite his adversity.

Outside of the content of what was being discussed, it's awesome to see how Mathieu has turned things around for himself. It would've been easy to give up once he was kicked off the team, but he took the hard route and it paid off, and you can see and hear it. Awesome.

"and if you continue to fall short, you have to pay the price" key part of the statement. .

Always a Tiger. What a class act TM7 has become.
