Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN writer Greg Ostendorf recently caught up with LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White at the SEC Media Days last week and asked him to describe new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda with just one word.

The senior from Shreveport, LA chose the word "Genuine."
quote:

Dave Aranda, LSU defensive coordinator

Genuine: “It’s the way that he talks and the way that he explains himself and the way that he reached out to me when I was going through the decision-making process. Should I go or should I come back? He reached out to me. He told me, ‘Whatever you do, I’m all for it. But if you were to come back, I was going to put you in a great position to make plays and be a difference-maker on this team.’ Once he told me that, it was an easier decision.” -- Cornerback Tre’Davious White

Whoever said our defense was never the problem to beat Bama must have forgotten the two last minute leads LSU had that Chavis couldn't manage to hold onto with less than 2 minutes to go. Chavis did that several times. Notre Dame, Bama twice, Clemson, Georgia all come to mind. In all this Miles bashing thst some of you do I wonder sometimes if y'all ever watched Chavis' defense at all. Yes the LSU defense was great at times but Chavis had some major flaws as well.

You are absolutely right, the gumps games were the killers. Victory snatched right out from under us, still butt hurts. Don't miss chavis in the 2 minute drill at all. Of course last years coordinator wasn/t a fit either.

I'm just waiting to see what kind of defense he puts on the field this season. He has the personnel to do great things. The real question is Will Les step back and allow him to do the job he was hired to do...

Let's hope "genuine" can beat Bama.

Our Defense has never been an issue to beat Bama, it is stubborn arse Leslie and his continual running the ball up the middle every fricking play. Let’s see if that changes, I am not confident it will.

jeez, Aranda hasn't coached one single down in the SEC, or have one single second of head coaching experience, yet you want him for our next HC. Good lord. Let's see what Aranda can do on the field over the next few years before we put a crown on his head.

Can't believe we bothered with Steele for a season. Aranda has the keys and persona to make us proud.

I firmly believe it was a calculated move. We are all well aware that we reached out to arnada before Steele. There was probably a backhanded deal. Wouldn't be surprised if both Steele and arnada knew what would happen before Steele even came aboard. Gave arnada a season to handle affairs and gave Steele a job/ added to his resume.

Well, you can thank Joe Alleva for not getting Arranda last year. Miles wanted Aranda but Alleva insisted on the Les Miles clause to be put in Aranda's contract. Aranda said no. Then Miles took Steele. After Alleva made a total cluster of the Miles situation. Miles got Aranda this time w/o the clause and Aranda is here. People you can't always blame Les Miles for everything. Some of you just say the same thing no matter what the situation. Blame Les. Blame Les. The reality is LSU has a pretty bad AD and he meddles in things he should leave to coaches. Alleva needs to go. Look at the embarassment he brought to LSU last year alone. The guy is a clown.

I hope so but let's see how he coaches the D on the field first :)

I hope so too. That way he can coach the D and he can bring in an offensive genius who gets our athletes in space and doesn't line up in I formation 80% of the time
