LSU plans to have a new Mike the Tiger on campus this August, according to the Unversity.

Mike VII's habitat will be renovated starting in April and the school hopes to introduce the new mascot in August when the incoming freshman class arrives.

The schools also announced that the tradition of bringing Mike into Tiger Stadium during game days is going away and that they working to have the tiger habitat accredited as a tiger sanctuary. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Responsible care for live exotic animals has evolved throughout the years, and LSU has evolved with it, as evidenced by the renovations to the tiger habitat in 1981 and the construction of an entirely new habitat in 2004-05. In that vein, LSU has decided that the tiger will not go into Tiger Stadium on home football game days. He will be out in his yard seven days a week. By having Mike in his yard on game days, it ensures that fans are able to see him throughout the day.

As further evidence of LSU’s dedication to providing the best, most responsible care for tigers, LSU is working to have the tiger habitat accredited as a tiger sanctuary. Becoming an accredited sanctuary means that LSU has met high standards of excellence in animal care and is operating ethically and responsibly. LSU believes that these changes are in the best interest of the longevity and ethical management of the LSU tiger mascot program.

So, when they are denied sanctuary status, the admin can say "sorry, we tried" and not get a tiger.

This is awesome news! I prefer to think that we are actually saving each tiger we receive by giving it a better life. And sadly, there aren't many tigers left today

You nailed it Austin Knight. The athletic department is bowing down to peta and other groups I'm sure. What a bunch of wimps! As far as the fireworks before the game, I agree. Eliminate that and more so, that crappy rap music they play. Hell, I don't want to go in and hear that shite banging in my head . I'm sure Mike didn't either! Grow some backbone and stop letting other people tell you how to run your business LSU!

Ridiculous that the tradition of Mike coming to the games is going away because of some PC, leftist agenda BS.

It's not that. They want to continue to use their lame arse field level fireworks, which scared the shite out of Roscoe.

All along they were saying it was Mike VI that did not want to go into the stadium, now we don't have a Mike and they still don't want to bring him into the stadium. As suspected it was his handlers that did not want him in the stadium, not Mike VI.

Damnit if Mike wants to go out into the stadium let him go.

I thought Alleva had a chance of listening to the traditions of the past century and keep Mike in the stadium in game days. Wrong

@swaggercopter I would love to see Reveille and Mike have a hang out session...alone in the same cage.

I approve this message. Honest to God going this route is the only way we can continue our tradition without the PETA brigade continuing to breathe down our throats as the pussification of America continues on.

PETA doesn't even want people to have house pets. Do you really think this is going to shut them up? Nothing will. They are mentally ill and one should never give into people like them, in any way, on any level.

As a animal rights loving liberal, frick peta, frick 'm all to death. They went from advocating a good cause, to being psycho extremists.

Way to be a douche about it, if it wasnt for the dumbass fireworks when the team comes out the locker room maybe Mike would have not started to not want to get in his trailer... The tradition has completely changed with the entrance of the football team which no cat will like the sound of fireworks blowing up around it
