Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis recently spoke with ESPN.com and said that he wasn't surprised that Les Miles was fired, suggesting that the school wanted to fire him back when he was there.

Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis, who was Les Miles' defensive coordinator for six seasons at LSU, told ESPN.com Monday that he sensed toward the end of his tenure that power brokers were plotting to force Miles out as head coach.
"It's always sad to see a man and a coach the caliber of Les get pushed out," Chavis said. "He's a Hall of Famer and a legend in the state of Louisiana. I was blessed that he gave me an opportunity to coach at a place like LSU, but I can't say I'm surprised that he's gone. They were trying to fire him when I was there, and I told him so."
Chavis saw a similar situation unfold at Tennessee when future Hall of Famer Phillip Fulmer was fired in 2008. Chavis, one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the college game, left LSU for Texas A&M following the 2013 season. He said his issues were never with Miles, but that he didn't trust the LSU administration.
