Georgia Coach Mark Fox's Plane Almost Crashed Into Another Plane
Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports
Georgia men’s basketball coach Mark Fox was on a Delta flight that had to “come to a screeching halt” on the runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Wednesday as it nearly collided with another plane. Charlotte Observer reporter Scott Fowler was also on the flight. He wrote...
quote:

Still, it was a close call that caused a mild panic among the passengers and required our plane to return to the gate in Atlanta to allow the brakes to “cool off” and for a maintenance check, the pilot said.

The screeching those brakes made will haunt me for awhile. I have flown hundreds of times, but I have never heard anything quite like that.

I travel for a living and was flying into Atlanta on delta, and about 6 seconds from when we would touch down, the pilot put the engines to full power and began a climb and bank to the right - found out later it was because a plane pulled out onto our runway just as we were coming in - the pilot apologized for the abrupt climb out.

"Almost crashed"? A little dramatic eh? It wasn't that close. Trust me.
