Why do you think Skenes grabs his hat before every pitch?

Habit mostly. It's quit common for people to adjust their hats after doing something like that. Especially when sweating.

I did it when I was a pitcher as a kid, and I certainly wasn't putting anything on the ball.

“I use pine tar on my bat so the bat doesn’t slip out of my hands,” Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones says. “So a pitcher can use pine tar on the ball so it doesn’t hit me in the face.”

Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper concurs.

“Absolutely,” Harper says. “I’m all in favor of it. If there’s a guy out there that needs it, I’m all for it. I don’t want to get hit in the head or the face. So whatever they need out there, I’ll let them have it.”

It’s true, in an era in which the average MLB fastball is well up into the 90s, many hitters support the notion that it is time for the league to approve and regulate a substance beyond rosin that is legal for pitchers to use.

“Obviously, you want a pitcher to have control of the ball,” the Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout says. “You don’t want a ball up and in when everybody’s throwing 100 nowadays. There’s mixed feelings, obviously, throughout the clubhouse and throughout baseball with this.

“For me, it’s a different feeling when you’re in the box and you know the pitcher doesn’t know where [the ball] is going, as opposed to if a guy knows where it’s going.”

I don’t particularly care about this issue one way or another; but the horns who are loudly chirping about how unreasonable it is for one team to point out the other team’s behavior are just being goofy.

smh.. I was simply trying to have a discussion about what actually goes on in baseball.. clearly I didn't understand that some of you "baseball guys" don't really understand how it works.. I'll bow out on this one. You can be right.

Oh look, you’re retarded.

What you are saying is retarded. Own it.

"Batters dont mind pitchers using foreign substances because it increases their control of the ball."

Why in the world does the batter want the pitcher manipulating that ball precisely to where the pitcher wants it? I get that the erratic pitcher can be scary to deal with but you dont want the pitcher having an advantage up front either.

I’m confused, is he saying Georgia planted stuff in A&M’s dugout?

No. They have "sneaky video guys moving around the stadium".

He's checking for these other things because they're happening.

It’s literally right there in the quote, smooth brain

Yeah Bryce Harper and Mike fricking Trout want pitchers to be able to use sticky stuff but jangalang on SECRant says that doesn’t make sense

Just admit you have no clue what you’re talking about and bow out of this thread

We need to differentiate between banned substances.

Some mixture of sunscreen, sweat, and rosin helps get a grip.

Spydertac makes the ball move in ways somewhat unnatural and make a major impact.

So just to be clear, you are admitting you were wrong and that there are a number of hitters who are in favor of pitchers using sticky stuff?

I’d agree. And since they are currently all illegal, there’s no reason for the pitchers to not use spider tack or something similar if they are gonna use something.

They all carry the same punishment

It is very rare someone on this site admits they were misinformed

Even on a message board, it’s very respectable

Georgia pitcher gets caught cheating.

Georgia fans - it should be legal.

Georgia pitcher is seen hiding in the corner applying the substance to his glove. Aggie pitcher goes to his belt. Could be the same but one takes a giant leap while the other is seen on camera.

So UGA manages to take 1 game from you guys by 1 run and the solution is "They must have cheated?"

A&M has been accusing so many teams of cheating that I cannot help but wonder what's going on in their dugout.

Agreed definitely less evidence than Mracna, but I don’t think you or I would be at all surprised if your pitchers were using something as well.

It sounds like A&M’s coach basically just said he doesn’t care and it’s part of baseball. It’s time for people to put down the pitchforks.

There are few things worse to me in life than people who use the faults of others to justify their own faults. And while I doubt I am immune to that, I certainly hope it never becomes acceptable.

On the other hand, I have no idea why I am commenting on baseball to start with. This and more are just part of the reasons why it's such a terrible sport.

At least in Nascar when they alter the equipment etc it's innovation. The creativity can be amazing at times. This is just putting shite on a ball.

There isn’t a mob with pitchforks. People are just commenting on the video evidence. And there is a lot of deflecting going on.

Time will tell how UGA pitching shows out the rest of the way.
