Sophomore running back Braylen Russell of Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Russell, 6-1, 225, confirmed his decision to HawgSports on Saturday night after attending the Hogs' thrilling 31-28 win over No. 17 Mississippi State.
Russell is Arkansas' first commitment for the Class of 2024. He was recruited to the Razorbacks by second-year running backs coach Jimmy Smith.
Russell, 6-1, 225, attends Hot Springs Lakeside and caught the Hogs' attention by running an unofficial 4.5 forty-yard dash at one of Arkansas' summer camps on June 21. So far, only the home state Hogs are found on his offer list.
Russell had positive things to say about Smith who will serve as the sophomore's lead recruiter over the next two years. Russell's head coach is Jared McBride, who is remembered by Arkansas fans as the third quarterback to enter the 2000 game against South Carolina and tearing his ACL after just two plays.
Russell is one of two in-state sophomores that own offers from the Razorbacks, thus far, as Malvern offensive lineman Vinny Winters also has an opportunity to play in Fayetteville.
