Kirby has been all about retention over attraction via NIL from the jump. His belief is that the development and opportunity should be the thing that gets them in the door and if they need more than a year or 2, then NIL is there to help keep them in place. Big reason why we could’ve used a guy like Walter Nolen but weren’t about to get into a bidding war and instead used the funds to keep Christen Miller, Mykel Williams, etc

That's nice to say but all of these schools are offering NIL deals to recruits, high school and transfer portal alike. Ideally, your roster is in a position like UGA's is, you're recruiting high school players at a great rate and you want to retain those guys, but let's not pretend they aren't being offered NIL deals on the front end.

They’re getting something but it’s typically far from the leading bid. KJ Bolden is the only guy who has actually pulled down a sizable bag from us out of HS (despite what he says publicly). We were also prepared to go deep for Caleb Downs out of the portal but Ohio State went deeper at the last possible second and we weren’t going to play chase (Day is so, so fricked if he doesn’t win a title this season).
